TV says out of range when connected to PC running XBMC

I am running XBMC 11.0 Eden live (XBMCbuntu) which I installed on my Dell Optiplex 745 through the live CD. When I connect it to my Bush television and turn it on a blue box comes up on the screen and says "out of range" or something like that. When I try my laptop it works perfectly but the XBMC live PC just does not work even though it will work on my smaller Sony TV in another room. Does anyone know how to solve this problem? Is there a setting or something I could change?

Lower the resolution from the PC, looks like your TV cannot handle the resolution. Reason the laptop may work is because they usually have a lower native resolution.

How would I lower the resolution on XBMCbuntu? I know how to do it on windows but not this.

Search for Display in Unity. You can set your screen resolution here.

I had the same problem on my Grunding TV.
Find oput the max resolution available. Could be something like 1366 x 760, or something.

Then you've to modify the X11 conf file, adding the correct resolution. I spend one month figuring this out! :-)

Let me know how you're getting on this, I can post my conf just as an example.

    Good luck

Sorry for the late reply I only got access to my TV now as we were doing up the room that it was in. Where would I find the X11 Conf file? I know what resolution to put it onto but wouldn't know where the X11 file is and what to change it to.
