Sky abroad

My parents have a house in Spain and they have a satellite and sky grundig box so they can watch their usual sky channels when they bring their viewing card over. It worked fine for years but now none of the sky sports channels except sky sports news work. All other channels are fine.
This problem may be since we got a sky+ box so I imagine we got a new viewing card too. I don't see why this would matter though.

    Any ideas guys?
    Thank you.

Was the viewing card paired to the new box?

Viewing Card would be paired to box for premium channels, i.e. you will get sky sports on your origional box at home and when you bring the card to the other box you will only get the basic package channels. Only way around this it to bring the box and card with you. And has always been this way.

before he was able to get all sports channels though, i watched matches myself there too. is it something to with the sky+ box that wasnt on the old grundig box? an extra feature so to speak

You used the word "before". If there is a different box in use now then the viewing card must be paired to it by ringing Sky.

You really need to establish if this has been done.

Just to be certain that we are all reading the same script, what is the exact message displayed on screen when those programmes "don't work"?

we had the old sky with the basic grundig box with all the channels besides movies. my dad used to bring the box and the card with him to spain everytime he went over and he used have all the channels that he would have back home. since we got sky+ and the new box he has left the old one over in spain. the last 2 times when he has taken the new card over to the old box he cannot get any of the sky sports channels besides sky sports news, but all other channels work. i test him now and it says, "this is the wrong card for this set top box. insert the correct sky viewing card. call 081....... for assistance

Your viewing card needs to be paired.

can it be paired to 2 boxes? does he just have to ring sky and they can do it over the phone?

No a viewing card cannot be paired to more than one box at any time. The only solution is to either call sky every time you want the card to work in the grundig box and get the card re-paired and do the same when you go home to get it back to your sky+ OR bring box and card on holidays.

The answer was given in the very first reply and in 3 subsequent replies so its fairly obvious what the problem is.

Just making sure. I only found out the exact message that it was giving my dad last night so thought I'd double check. Your tone is not exactly friendly and quite condescending. there's no need

Make sure if you are phoning Sky from Spain that you block your number otherwise they may disable your viewing card as it breaches their t&c's by using it abroad.

To get full functionality, the card needs to be paired with the box it's in.Ring Sky with the card number & serial number of the box to pair it.

Get a photo of the card and a photo of the info screen (cant remember the exact menu option at the moment) on each box. Each time you travel, phone Sky in advance to get the card paired with right box. If they ask, just say you have a holiday home in Ireland, assuming your card is an Irish viewing card.

As for the condescending tones here, you will often find there are two types of people with information:

    a) the first kind knew nothing to begin with, and learned from other people by asking questions, and are now able to talk to those who know and those who dont, without appearing to be stupid or know it alls.

    b) the second kind knew nothing to begin with, and learned from other people by asking questions, and now do not want to share their knowledge with anyone without extracting some price, usually by trying to show how smart they are, but often showing how childish they are.

Still, most people here are type a, so keep coming back. Not to sure if I'm type a or b ;)

Indeed it does. So that's the end of this thread.
