    Hi all,

I've recently moved within Dublin and my commute has since halfed to 10km each way all of which is through Dublin city centre.

At the moment I'm on a focus cayo 105 which I use for commuting and weekend/evening spins. Thinking of purchasing a hybrid second hand for €250 euros and am wondering am I MAD!!!???

I just think that my racer isn't suitable for city centre commutes!!

I have no other bikes and am just wondering what other boardsies are doing in a similar situation.

    Any advice appreciated!!

Nothing wrong with a nice road bike for commuting. I'm using a road bike myself now and couldn't be happier and my commute is only a 17.5k round trip with the odd exception of a local hill.

There is also nothing wrong with a hybrid for commuting. Especially if you would like to have full mudguards and racks and panniers (there are also road bikes that have this option).

I think it's really about how you prefer your commute to be. Do you like backpacks better than panniers or the other way around? Do you like the more aero position of the drops when going home in a brutal headwind or do you like to be more upright for better visibility?

There are plenty of people commuting on road bikes, hybrids, MTBs, high-nellies, BSOs, fixies, single speeds, cross bikes and I've even seen a bike made out of wood/bamboo in the bike park at work. Have yet to see a unicycle used for commuting :D
