Hey all. Started a thread a few days ago about/for long distance commuters to UCD. Was wondering as well is there anyone who commutes from Tullamore specifically?

A friend of mine was commuting to ucd from Daingean a few years ago. The next year he transfered to maynooth and I'm fairly sure most if not all of the reason was because he couldn't stand the commute to ucd...

That's a fair spin and if you get caught in rush hour traffic it'd be heart ache.

Why not rent a room somewhere closer isn't that half the craic of being in college sure the petrol costs would probably be more than the cost of renting.

Well I get a train and then a bus from the station to UCD. I don't know how much petrol would cost, but commuting is much cheaper than staying in Dublin, even the 'cheap' places are expensive compared to cost of accommodation for other colleges

Doesn't seem to bad €100 a week would get a half decent place and you could cycle to college from ranelagh if you get onto the college i'm sure there's a notice board with rooms to let for less.

I don't think I'd be able for that commute it'd be tough goin but no reason it couldn't be done and sure if it does get tough you could look into renting a room later on but all the decent places will probably go quickly.

Trust me, I've done the sums for it. Still paying off debts for when I did live up in Dublin (First year semester 1). Commuting really is much cheaper. Not that I wouldn't like to live up in Dublin, would be much easier. Just simply can't afford it

Ah sure looks like you'll be on the bus so. you could probably cycle from houston to ucd although our lovely weather may not cooperate with ya.

Sure you may get lucky and hook up with someone driving passed your direction i'd be putting up an add on the notice board see what comes of it.

Happy trails man sounds like you'll be putting in the mileage either way :D

You can also get the Kearns bus to Dublin from Tullamore which is cheaper than the train, but it might not be worth forfeiting your human rights. Stuffy, uncomfortable and a two hour journey. But it only costs 12 quid for a return ticket. Actually I think you can get ten journeys (up and down for 5 days) for 40 euro or so.

I'm not sure what way it would be on the weekdays, but when I went up on a Sunday evening the six o'clock bus went all the way to ucd. Otherwise it'd stop on O'Connel St and ya could get the 46a or walk down and get the 145, 39a etc. They're all frequent buses.

Ya might be better off on the train with the sockets, tables, leg room and I think the route has wifi now.

My sister commutes also. She started off getting Kearns bus, but moved to the train. She said the bus was just a nightmare
