    hi All,
I want to buy a trailer for carrying bikes surfboards and maybe my motorbike.
I was going to buy a locally made trailer I spotted on done deal but I heard there was new legislation around e marking for trailers?
Does anyone know if this is being enforced? Will the guards check a trailer for e marking?
    thanks,

Some will tell you that they are being checked, but from my experience one the trailer has lights and brakes, and is generally in good nick, then you'll have no problems.

I have a factory built and stamped indespension low loader and a generic heavy duty 8x4 steel builders trailer without manufacturers plate. Never had a Garda take more than a look around at lights and tyres.

All new trailers have to be type approved and plated so building trailers in your backyard to sell to the public is out. As long as the trailer looks right and tyres and lights are OK you'd probably never get picked up on it as TrailerBob says. if it's secondhand and older than 2010 I think, then it's not required.

Trailer testing will come in at some point though.
