BEWARE: windscreen is covered under policy, however no claims cert is affected - AXA

So I'm with AXA and I had a claim during the year. It was for a windscreen replacement which costed about 225euro. My no claims discount is not affected. However my actual years without a claim on this policy went from 5 years down to 0.

What does this mean? Well it really means I'm locked into AXA. It will be difficult for me to get an equivalent quote elsewhere.

I rang them up and they said it was standard. My response is that if I wanted to get a quote online that I would have to put in 0 years with no claims. Their response was that the companies would ask what the claim was when I rang them up...

I don't like it and it all sounds fishy to me.

The renewal letter I got states "No loss of no claims discount for theft, fire or windscreen claims" ... but thats not fully correct because my discount is affected if I try and move company.

I'll be locked with AXA for 5 years now.

What do you guys think? Is it really ok to do this?

This is always the way. If looking for quotes, insurers wouldn t consider the glass claim when calculating premium.
Your record of claims clearly details the type of claim and settlement figure.

No, it's not ok. Write to them, not phone, and tell them you're not happy, and that you believe it's sharp practice, and tell them you are going to complain to the Insurance Ombudsman. And do that as well.

I'd have just paid the €225 out of my own pocket tbh...

Surely when other companies see that the claim was for such a small amount it wouldn't have that much of an effect?

Every Insurance company does the same. A windscreen claim will not prevent you moving.
The main thing is you retain your bonus.

i think excess normally is 300 euro.

i am with allianz(via broker), on previous car (punto) changed windscreen (couldnt pass nct over cracked corner), didnt want go through insurance company, just pay cash, rang to one of company, who doing windscreens, they asked me insurance details, they checked with insurance company, and they said i am covered, no need pay money from my side, dont know why they insisted do it through insurance company, i let them go that way. then i sold punto, and got avensis ...paid extra 140 euro for insurance (other 11 moths ) from 1.1 engine to 1.8, which i think is reasonable. will see when ill get next quote. (policy states i may do 3 claims over two years without affecting NCB's... if understood right).

There is no excess on windscreen claims.

Your not stuck with AXA. Most of the online quote engines have the option of entering the claim, that's what I to do and I only got a chip fixed. It was/is easier just to say windscreen replacement when getting a quote when they ask about any claims in the last 3 or 5 years, I still have full NCD

Going OTT there. The OP has had a claim, for windscreen replacement, but they have the letter from the insurance company saying they had a claim but have full NCD. It's standard practice.

Windscreen claim does not affect ncd, i had protected ncd and had a claim for 2000 accidental damage 2 years ago, even though i was still entitled to a full ncd when ichanged company from axa my proof of ncd highlighted the claim and i had to disclose it. It did not affect the premium i had to pay

A windscreen claim is a claim, however as per the t&cs of the policy AXA will not take it into account when calculating the OP's NCD. What's there to complain about?
