one thing its fookin very expensive make sure ya find out all the charges
i priced it in poland 3 days was 200 euro without firing a shot then add your flights and fees for rifle transportation
    then accomadation
then every animal ya shoot ya have to pay for a good boar could set ya back a grand depending on the size of tusks

some shoots can be all inclusive but there still big money

To my uneducated eye, that looks a bit cruel - the guy is pumping shots at fast-moving targets who are running for their lives. The chances of getting a clean kill must be tiny. This is in marked contrast to the hunting of deer where they are brought down cleanly with a single shot and presumably suffer very little. And check out 2:30 or so in the video where a moving boar is shot with a dog more or less touching it - concern for the dog obviously not a high priority either.

    Anyway.

    Anyway.

Its actually called a driven shoot.Or Treibjagd
No, actually the chances of getting a clean shot,is very good as the animals can come in various distances to you.Its up to you to shoot the distances that you are comfortable at.Be it 20 or 150 meters.

This is also where the semi auto rifle comes into its own as well.:D

Its a totally different game to stalking deer, which can be shot with this method on the continent too..BTW,it is also part of your hunting test over there to be able to shoot moving targets with your rifle as well. There is even a rifle disipline called "Running boar" that allows you to practise this kind of shooting in the off season. So running shots on big game animals isnt that much of a biggie to European hunters, unlike their UK and Irish counterparts.

The 2.30 ,not exactly a smart shot, but as it was with a rifle proably less of a risk.Would be more worrisome with a shotgun. However that does happen quite frequently that dogs will close on a boar, and its up to you wether you want the animal to suffer more or not.Maybe it was his own dog too??

It might look chaotic, but I can assure you these drives are planned with military precision, where everyone knows what they are doing and when and where they are supposed to be.

Hopefully your eye is abit better educated now.;):)

You hang and let them mature them for 8 months????
    No wonder they taste horrible!!:D
Seriously, you need to taste a wild boar piglet of appx 6months.Done in a BBQ with chanterelle mushroom gravy and a paprika sauce.

Or the trad German way, with dumplings, red cabbage gravy and apple and red berry sauce.Heavenly!

And you know what that tastes like? :p

that shot with the dog was a bit mental alright and I reckon if the lads organising the dogs for the drive saw it they would be far from impressed.

I may be kicking a hornets nest but oh well, ye should be used to my drivel by now:-D,would it be worth buying a slug barreled shotgun for? I reckon a couple of 12 guage saboted slugs should stop and boar inside 100 fairly sharpish. What do the people in the know think?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,134 ✭✭✭✭Grizzly 45

    No need..
If you are going to use sabots[use the French Sauvestre sabot slugs,if you can get;)] the rifle barrel is a waste of time. Then you have the problems [maybe] of importing it here,as it will be calassified as a big calibre restricted rifle.
FWIW you can do just as well with a 24in rifle sighted smoothbore, with a decent red dot sight if you want, and you are VERY good to go for boar over in Europe.:)
Even that isnt necessary, plenty of hunters over shoot boar with slugs from bog standard doubles ,pumps or semis with various different chokes.
