Not a consumer issue and now your cross posting,

In this case the item was over 100ml and it isn't essential in the same way as heart meds for example, very easily could have been avoided by following guidelines. doesn't matter if it was in its original packaging or not, this has nothing to do with it.

The US Airways desk don't do security, the TSA do and if your going to the USA and they are strict, this is very well known.

Given there's chemists once you pass security a suitable replacement could have been purchased,

Normally I'd get a letter from my doctor if medication is needed while flying. It's standard & safety regulations for them to take chemicals & medication from passengers before boarding any plane for the obvious reasons. The DAA also have doctors and pharmacist in the terminals, so just ask for them if the medication is needed and they can approve it for the flight.

Just posting this to let others know Dublin Airport like to take medicine from babies... Warning to all parents.

Well done Dublin Airport for sticking to policy in the face of the usual 'won't some one think of the children' non-sense which will be exploited by terrorists to blow you, me and your baby nice out of the sky probably over something cute like a puppy farm.

Won't someone think of the puppies!

Buy one of the little bottles of Scotch dab some on your thumb and let the baby have a suck - quiet baby for the flight. << This bit is a joke but paracetamol v alcohol? I dunno.

The DAA state several times in their advice to travellers that the container must not exceed 100ml capacity. It doesn't matter how much is in the bottle. Calpol is not an essential medicine and is not even a prescribed medicine. It can also be purchased at the airport after security.

Simple rules! I can't see any issue here at all.
