Mature Student Maths Test.

Hi everyone. I will be attending Maynooth in Sept to do Biotechnology. At the open day back in June, I thought I heard a Mature Student speaker briefly mention that we would have to sit a Maths test prior to starting the course. Could be wrong here, but inevitably, it has crept into my mind and won't go away. Does anyone know if this is the case? I am out of Education a loooong time, and Maths is the one subject that worries me a little. I was fine at Ordinary level all those years ago, but naturally i've forgotten practically everything. Was not asked to do the Maths Access course after interview stage, but now panicking that I will be handed a test the minute I land in Maynooth, would love to be able to ease myself back in:)

Any replies would be very much appreciated.
Will also post this in Mature forum.

Try to get your hands on a good old (not project maths) Leaving Cert Maths book (Texts and Tests are good) and get stuck into it for the next 3/4 weeks. Concentrate on algebra, fractions, differentiation and integration. Use youtube to help you if you are stuck. There are plenty of free on-line tutorials.

And learn how to draw and read a graph. I cannot stress this enough. If you can get the basics of this just to lay a foundation, you should be ok. Use the maths centre as much as possible as soon as it opens in September and don't be afraid to ask questions. The tutors and lecturers in the maths dept are super and so long as you are interested in learning and show an interest in your studies, they will be more than happy to halp you with any difficulties you may have.
    Best of luck! :)

    www.khanacademy.org and www.patrickjmt.com are your friends :)

Both sites have got me through the first 2 years of maths in a science degree and I was like you, did ordinary level LC maths and had been out of education for years.

Thanks for that. Plan on only doing maths for first year, getting dropped as soon as I can:)
