Hi I'm a new user so bear with me....

I have been drinking since I started in college at 18 and I am now 25. It started out as a tool to have more fun in social occasions and I was basically indifferent to it outside of that. However I began to get a taste for drinking alone and at irregular hours (mornings or late at night at home) and then I began using drink as a tool to avoid boredom. If I had to fulfill a dull social obligation or do some boring task that didn't require much concentration I would get tanked beforehand to take the edge off.

It has gotten to the point that I regularly drink 2 or 3 bottles of wine in a few hours as many as 4 or 5 times a week. Occasionally I'll polish off a whole bottle of Vodka or whiskey in a few hours the odd time.

The concern is that my drinking, which is already heavy, is just getting more and more frequent and I seem to just keep going with it regardless. I don't think I know how to stop.

When I got to rock bottom I had to do an in patient detox, loads of librium and magic tablets. Definitely consult a doctor. Can you hold a job, keep routine? I couldn't. It's painful but long term it's the best thing I ever did. There's also support groups such as AA but your local Doc should set you on the right path for you, maybe recommend a specialist or alcohol counsellor.

Hi Whirling Dervish Try a few or all of these tips,But remember its only you and you alone who can change you.

Stop running from your problems. – Face them head on. No, it won’t be easy. There is no person in the world capable of flawlessly handling every punch thrown at them. We aren’t supposed to be able to instantly solve problems. That’s not how we’re made. In fact, we’re made to get upset, sad, hurt, stumble and fall. Because that’s the whole purpose of living – to face problems, learn, adapt, and solve them over the course of time. This is what ultimately molds us into the person we become.

It’s not the people that stand by your side when you’re at your best, but the ones who stand beside you when you’re at your worst that are your true friends. You can lie to anyone else in the world, but you can’t lie to yourself. Our lives improve only when we take chances, and the first and most difficult chance we can take is to be honest with ourselves.

You have to create stability in your own life first before you can share it with someone else Stop wasting time explaining yourself to others. – Your friends don’t need it and your enemies won’t believe it anyway. Just do what you know in your heart is right. Good luck and read some of the other posts/threads in this forum there very helpfull.:)
