Guys hey, im trying to get info or opinions on the Renault / Iveco sofim 2.5 and 2.8 turbo diesel engines.
Are they prone to certain failures, ive read head gaskets can be expected to go after 200,000 km... is there any other known fault's, have people found them troublesome and so on. Are they a bad idea... i think spares would be easy enough get

    appreciate your reading,
    regards,
    redd .

My father's 97 Trafic camper van had a 2.5 non turbo Iveco/Sofim engine which was reliable unlike the rest of the vehicle  The heap of sh!te is now scrapped thankfully. Engine was a basic plodder, had a timing belt and needed heater plug to start even in summer.

Only problem we had was with spares which could be expensive, starter ring gear was €200. Had a row with one Renault dealer over a seal he wanted to charge me €70 for, was the wrong seal and I was accused of having changed the engine at some point because his computer couldn't be wrong!

Rang Iveco in Dublin over a query and they told me to contact Renault!
