Op you could lose your rent allowance or some of it if the terms of your living arrangements change.

what is the rate for a single person versus the rate for a couple?

I dont know if you are in shared accomodation or if you have children.
If you have children, the rate for a single person + children is the same as a couple + children.

The big thing is whether or not the new rent is still within the limits.

Also bear in mind that there is implications with regards to whatever benefit or allowance you are on when you are cohabiting.
