    Hi all.

I posted in another forum but this is relevant here now...
I have a phone that can send files via IRDA (infared) and a laptop with an infared receiver...

    now.

do i need a software application on the pc to receive files?
all that is installed is the driver, Microsoft eHome Infrared Transceiver.

but i figured there would be an actual application that needs to run to tell the machine to receive files?

I have done it before, but the laptop I'm currently using doesn't seem to recognise the IR device that it does have. I think the program 'irftp.exe' is involved. I use WinXP, can't comment on other OSs for this. Google !

there is a suprising lack of info on irda and the applications on google, ive been searching for some thing since monday....

i found irftp.exe on windows 7 but when clicked it doesnt run, maybe its always running?

You don't need any software. When IR is enabled on both devices and they are within range, you should see the Infrared icon VaIJ4.jpg in the system tray, just click on it.

(Check the Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Infrared. Make sure the Allow others to send files to my computer using infrared communications check box is selected.)

oh darn..... there isnt an infrared option under hardware and sound.....

i also have an external ir receiver here for a remote..... but cant find the software for it... it installs ok though.. but stilll nothing shows up under hardware and sound.

is there a third party ir application?

Is there any IR device listed in the device manager and if so, is it enabled?
