MAN DUE BEFORE SPECIAL CRIMINAL COURT ON GEOGHEGAN MURDER CHARGE

    17 August 2012

A Limerick man is due before the Special Criminal Court in Dublin today to be charged with the gangland murder of Garryowen Rugby player Shane Geoghegan.

28 year old Shane was shot dead in a case of mistaken identity at Kilteragh, Dooradoyle in the early hours of November 9th 2008.

The 30 year old accused is currently serving a prison sentence and is being escorted to the Special Criminal Court for an appearance later this morning.

26 year old Barry Doyle of Portland Row in Dublin is already serving a life sentence for the murder.

If the guy had anything to do with the murder, then I hope he gets enough years added onto his current sentence/sentences to keep him in prison for life.

John Dundon charged with murder of rugby player Shane Geoghegan

A MAN appeared before the Special Criminal Court today charged with the murder of Shane Geoghegan four years ago.J

John Dundon (29), with a last address at Hyde Road, Limerick, was this morning charged with the murder of the 28-year-old Garryowen rugby player at Clonmore, Kilteragh, Dooradoyle, Limerick, on November 9th 2008.

State Solicitor Mr Michael O’Donovan told the court that the Director of Public Prosecutions had certified the ordinary courts were inadequate to secure the administration of justice and submitted that the matter should be dealt with by the non-jury Special Criminal Court.

Detective Garda Padraig Maguire, of Roxoboro Road Garda Station, told Mr O’Donovan that he met John Dundon in the precincts of the court this morning and informed him he was to be charged with murder.

He said he explained the charge in ordinary language to Dundon, who appeared before the court wearing a white t-shirt and jeans. Det Gda Maguire said that Dundon made no reply.

Mr O’Donovan asked that the accused man be remanded in custody for six weeks to facilitate the preparation of a book of evidence in the case.

Lawyers for Mr Dundon asked the court for legal aid in the matter, but said that no statement of means had been prepared.

Presiding judge Ms Justice Elizabeth Dunne, sitting with Mr Justice Garrett Sheehan and Judge William Hamill, said that the court could not grant legal aid until a statement of means had been filed and would therefore deal with the application on the next occasion.

She remanded the accused man in custody to appear before the three-judge court again on October 2nd next.

There was a heavy security presence in court for this morning’s brief hearing, with many investigating gardai from Limerick having travelled to Dublin for the Special Criminal Court appearance.

Another tragic example of how regeneration is destroying the city.

    Folks,

I know I'm going to come across as heavy handed and seem to be protecting people that don't deserve protecting, but under legal precedent in Ireland the publishers of any article which could have an impact on legal proceedings can/will be held in contempt of court, the owners of boards.ie would be regarded as publishers in relating to this, due to this I have no option but to close this topic due to the fact that it's an ongoing legal case, I will be more than happy to reopen it once the case is closed.

    Sorry.
