My lab bitch doesnt really sleep in her indoor bed in her run, prefers lying on the concrete outside. Is there any raised platforms available to keep her up off the concrete at she's starting to develop hard skin in areas such as her elbows. Also open to DIY alternatives!

A friend got lumped with a wolf cross (not advisable, bad pet, all sorts of problems).. This canine was obsessed with being in the open no matter what the weather was doing. Like your dog, wouldn't settle in the kennel. After lots of bedding shredding experiments, we ended getting one of these.

We got it cheaper in Europe, I will find out tomorrow where.

I was thinking along those lines, but Id really like something that won't soak up water. I wash down her run everyday and I reckon the psllet would start to stink after a while.
I'm an electrician by trade and currently in on the night shift - had a look out in the stores and reckon I may be able to fashion up a frame with a bit of 20mm conduit and a pipe benders.

Has worked a treat for me. Bit of left over treated decking.

Supermarkets have plenty of plastic pallets that they would gladly give away. They tend to be a lot smaller than the wooden ones too which would probably suit you and they don't look so bad either.

Not 100% chew proof Elmer, but the dog was less inclined to chew it particularly when there was other stuff around for it to chew.

What you need is cow matting, its made from a thick rubber and is used for cattle and horses. As the dog is already used to lying on the ground she'll probably take to it right away. I have it in my run and the dogs lie out on it all the time its a really good job and you can just wash it down with the hose. You could even cut it up and use it inside the kennel as a bed. You can buy it in the local co-op for about €50-€60 a 4X8 foot mat.

Thats the stuff in front of the kennel.

Like the 2 of the lads said a bit of treated decking or cow mats should do the trick. The cow mat can be lifted up easily to wash around..

What kind of bedding have you inside the house? Could be that the dog is too hot, even with all the rain/wind there is still a dead heat there.

feck just dismatled one a few weeks ago that i made a few years ago never thought of sticking it on here ... base was about 3 foot off the ground with about a foot and a half of a box on top... they could walk under it and was easy to wash under
made it from 30mm angle iron and ply was a right job there very easy to make once ya can weld at all doesnt have to be perfect welds there not exactly holding a crane etc lol

Cheers for all the replies lads!

Tawny has just dropped me off a plastic pallet on his way home from work - decent bloke very much appreciated! Cheers tawny!!

Widgeon: I'm in kill in Kildare - I can travel though. A bit of rubber matting would be great if you could spare it! Gonna put it on top of the pallet.
