Hi all,

just wondering if any of youse are experiencing an ecoli-mastitus problem this summer amongst your dairy herd. We've never had an issue with it before this summer but now 3 cows in the last 8 weeks have had it in a quarter.

What causes it? Prevention measures? And how can it be treated effectively is the biggest question. Vet recommended Kanacef tubes but no joy - any help greatly appreciated. At present just pulling quarter by hand and dumping anything I can get out of it....

are they sick with it? take a sample and send it off to see what you are dealing with... do you teat spray and what is your scc like? when was your milking machine last serviced?
