    Hi,

Sorry if this question has been asked before but I couldn't find info specific to my situation anywhere.

So I'm a fulltime student in receipt of BTEA. I have not worked in 4yrs :(.... am I entitled to taxback on rent paid during this period? I pay over 250pm and don't get Rent Allowance or anything like that.

    Thank You.

It's a tax credit so if you have not paid any tax then you can't get a refund.

In order to claim tax back on anything you need to have paid tax. As you haven't worked in 4 years, you can't have paid tax, so there's nothing for you to claim against.

Okay. Thank you so much for your replies.

Can I claim anything for the years before this or must it only be for last four years?

There is a four year look back rule in Revenue meaning currently, 01/01/08 is the furthest you can go back.
So say you paid tax in 2008, you would be able to claim against your 2008 rent paid.
