Is it possible to add temporary driver (here for a week only, EU license) to my car insurance with 123.ie? Cheers!

Thanks! Didn't have time today to give them a ring and the website doesn't say. Any ideas what range the fee might be in?

    €10 I would have thought.

    €10 I would have thought.

From memory 123 charge 40 for any admin work.

OP - I had a bit of an issue recently where I needed to add a Named Driver for 3 days to my policy. My insurance company were going to charge me €69 for the privilege. I then asked her to add that person as a Named Driver until renewal...... they gave me back €20 once I did that.

Try both angles but accept that you will be looking at a €40 charge irrespective for admin (which is crazy monies)

They only charge €40 for permanent changes to policies. €10 for temporary transfers etc. Not sure what a temp driver would count as though.

I see a trend here! lol, they changed me €40 to update my address even though all they had to do was put it into their computer, the disc wouldn't have changed

That's the only annoying thing I've to say about them

I think they charge you €40 every time you open one of their letters or even visit the site... :p

pretty sure they should issue a new cert as the cert should have your current address on it. granted its nowhere near even €4 charge but maybe look into that if you dont get one..

They charge €40 for that too! Everything is charged

Oh my. I need to change the address too! Wondering if they'll charge me €80 for both changes?

€40 fee is where a new cert is requried to be issued .. change address, drivers names on cert - ya might get away with €10 if you don't need cert but keep wallet open

You won't! It's €40 for any change or amendment! That's it!

Is that a recent change? It was 100% only €10 for me to change my insurance over to a different car for ten days only a month or so ago.

It' always been the way apparently. Did you get some sort of discount? are you sure they didn't add it to your premium

Is there any way to get around the €40 charge? Transferred policy temporarily 2 weeks ago €10, then permanently to another car €40 and now it seems I will have to permanently transfer to a different car again soon and don't want to have to pay another €40. It's ridiculous.

My tip may not help your current predicament, unless by bizarre co-incidence the timing is just right, but this could be good to know for the future:

Most of these charges are applied for MID TERM adjustments which are made at any stage DURING your twelve month policy. If the change you require is not urgent, you can often avoid the charge by making the change at your renewal.

You will usually find a blank section on your renewal notice where you can notify the insurers of any changes to be made and provided the change does not affect the premium, you won't be charged extra.

I had a policy with 123.ie and it was the only one I ever had that I dropped out of early, due to p1iss-taking with admin fees.

A lot of places don't charge anything.

If like me you do the odd temp sub, or other similar changes, make sure you factor it in when buying insurance.

Yeah, I found that out the hard way. I have been with a few insurance companies before 123.ie and never had to pay any admin fee. If there was an admin fee, it could be avoided by doing it yourself online. Not with 123.ie though and I would lose too much if I cancel my insurance with them so it looks like I'm going to have to pay another €40, bringing it to €90 for the past 2 weeks. p1ss-take is right.

Yeh, was a flat €10 fee, checked my bank statement there to confirm. They may have charged the other €30 to the other parties insurance company maybe?

I'd say you might have a hit a loophole in the €40 charge as your temporary change was due to an ongoing claim, or some such thing.

It is slightly annoying that you need to pay the €40 for any mid term changes, that's one of the reasons I just add everything at the start of the year so it's only unforeseen circumstances that makes me have to give it them.

I had to change my address last November and 123 wanted €20 I think it was. Anyway after a chat with the manager we agreed that they would hold the account in arrears and if I needed the certificate then Id ring them and pay the arrears.
I did confirm that I was still insured as I had paid the original premium in full. I guess its a grey area . I had done my part notified them of my change of address.
My renewal for this year arrived by email recently and the address has been updated on it ;) and its the cheapest quote I have received ever. No sign of the €20 outstanding :D.

FYI I was quoted €40 for adding a new temp driver, and €20 for address change...
