    Hey all,

Will try keep this brief. Have an MSI A6200 with a dead DC jack(actually smashed :S ). Desoldered and soldered on a new one. Awkward as usual, but no problem. Power returned, battery charges. Machine powers on...sort of.

When I turn it on the power button and hibernate led(this is normal) turn on. Fan spins up to full, goes to idle, then after 20s goes back to full(everything stays cool to the touch), as if its overheating. No display, no beeps, no caps lock etc. Power down requires a 5sec hold. External display doesnt work(VGA, havent got HDMI here to test).

    What I've tried:
    Reseating RAM, using different sticks
    Disconnecting everything
    New CPU paste
    Residual power clear
    CMOS reset
Everything with and without battery(which charges just fine).

Seems like the mobos dead, but the fan PWM at least seems to be working, so just wondering if anyone has any suggestions before I order a new mobo :( Oh, the CPU was totally swamped in paste, but I've never seen that cause a boot fail before.

    Thanks,
    ED E.

If you boot without RAM does it beep?

Nope. Same response every time. Wondering what'd happen if I tried with the CPU out too.

I'd say you're on the right track with the mobo, I'm pretty sure I've heard a similar story somewhere before - it's something to do with the soldering, possibly heat damage.

EDIT: Scratch all that. Drive is causing it to freeze, strange. Still hot though :S Troublesome POS....
