There's a big almost-2-page spread in today's Irish Independent entitled:

"The truth about avoiding cancer." (Yes, they put 'truth' in red type)

The intro to the article says "We asked four experts in their field what they think..."

So, who are the four experts?

    1.
The Cancer Expert - Kevin O'Hagan is health promotion manager for the Irish Cancer Society

    Fair enough.

    2.
The Alternative Medicine Practitioner - Dr. Aileen O'Kane

Turns out that she worked as a doc for 20 years, but now runs an ayurvedic practice in Co. Armagh.

    3.
    The Dietician - Sally Milne

Sally Milne is not - as far as I can discover - a state-registered Dietician (Dietician is a legally protected term, you can't call yourself one unless, well, you actually ARE) She's a nutritionist. Anyone can call themselves one of those. Dr. Ben Goldacre even managed to get his CAT to be recognised by one body claiming to be a professional association of Nutritionists.

    4.
Electromagnetic Energy Expert - Brendan Murphy

    A "water douser".

(What? No "The" this time, Indo Editor? You're slipping!)

So, three quarters of the TRUTH about cancer, according to the Indo, comes from people who either believe that medicine is all about some ancient Indian magic, describe themselves (or allow themselves to be described) as belonging to a profession that they don't belong to, or believe that holding two bent pieces of coat-hanger wire in their hands will lead them to hidden underground water, which causes cancer if your bed is over it.

Way to go in exposing the 'truth', Indo!

I'd say poor oul Kevin O'Hagan died of embarrassment this morning when he saw what his name and photo had been put beside.

That article is quite frankly embarassing!

I fear the Indo knows no shame though......

Aw, shucks! Am I gonna have to go out in the rain to get the newspaper out of the car to see if I misspelled it or they did?

No, no need to get wet; Wiktionary reckons you can spell it either way!

    FYP!

You're an amateur at this grammar nazi business!

An ellipsis has only three dots (...), not four or five!

And I double checked: the Indo used Dietician not Dietitian.
