I got a B2, and I think that's accurate. There's one guy on here though (maybe you) who claimed their whole year was unfairly marked in business.

B1 , thought it was accurate also :)

Heard from a few in my class who did business that they felt it was marked harder. A lot of them fell in grades from the mocks... Couldn't tell you myself, never did it. :)

Got an A2 absolutely delighted :D I thought that i screwed up in the exam and would get a B3 or B2.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,323 ✭✭✭Cruel Sun

Devastated. "A" student for 2 years, the only subject I applied my self fully in, got a B2, as did many others in my class some of which received A1's in mocks. I reckon our teacher will be raging. That single result has spoiled my leaving cert for me.

I got a B3, I think it was unfairly marked, coming out I was confident on a high B-A result. A few in my year agreed aswel, and when I was out last night I heard a couple of people complaining about how they felt they achieved higher.

I thought it was marked ok! I was an A2 student who went up to an A1. I know some people thought it was marked awful though...maybe get it rechecked!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,409 ✭✭✭Sunny!!

A few in our year were very dissapointed wasnt just me, im relatively happy with my result, ill look through my paper but id say it was the abq let me down. Its a difficult exam to get an A in!

no it want me i dont think:) people were generally happy, but people that were constantly getting A1's all year and badly needed them didn't its a bit strange.

I got a B in the mocks with all the spoilers  Got an A2 yesterday :D

    Got a D3 when i thought i deserved a B

absolutely gutted cannot understand how it happend

Business was the only subject I thought I did ok in and now I may have to repeat because I was very borderline on points :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,391 ✭✭✭Mysteriouschic

I got C1/B in every test I got another D3 this year but i actually understood this years paper more. So I don't know anymore, maybe I just underperform under pressure or something.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,989 ✭✭✭PictureFrame

Business was always a subject I anticipated fully getting an A1 in. I got 94% in my Mock, did 5 extra mocks outside of school and got them corrected by my Teacher (who was amazing) and never got less that 92% in any of them even though they were tough.

Was sure of getting an A1 yesterday, ended up getting a B1. Seriously disappointed with it! Two years of continuous tough work and endless exam papers for a flipping B1. I was distraught. :(

My Teacher and classmates were in disbelief about it, I knew the course and exam answering techniques like the back of my hand.. I can't understand it..

I got a B3. It was definitely taught badly to me as we never did exam papers (and it trailed behind my other results, I didn't count it...) and the mocks were the same - B3, not counted. I'm still pretty sure I got full/close to full marks in the shorts, high marks in the applied section but fell down in the long questions. I had hoped for a B2 and I did a lot of work between the mocks and the real thing so it's pretty sad that I didn't improve at all, but I kind of expected it after the exam so I think it was marked okay.

I got an A1 :D only one in my year and I know most of the others who were all A standard during the year didn't do as well as they thought !

Got an A1 in business. The subject I neglected all year and left out units 1 and 7. Alot of people in my class went down to b's in the lc

I can't believe you didn't get an A1 in Business. It's a joke tbh. There's no reason why you shouldn't have got one after all your work.

It goes without saying that Business was marked rather strangely. There's people getting A1's (including myself) in the LC that wouldn't usually have gotten them.

Shockingly marked.... I wanted to do a buisness related degree and love economics.. love it. Came out of buisness thinking i got at least a C2.

Got a D2. Now I am Fúcked... all due to what I percieve as unfair marking. I'm down to my 5th choice because of the D2.... and I am only on borderline points from last year for it and with the 25 point increase in maths... it only makes sense a buisness related degree would go up in points by at least 15.

    Distraught and annoyed.

What were your grades like during the year? If you had done a lot better than that then you will more than likely go up in a recheck, they might of missed a page or something :)

    I can only hope.

Only problem with getting a positive recheck and getting the course I want is that I Won't get on-campus accomodation.

    Hmmm....

Accounting & Finance was 425 points last year... I got 430 due to my buisness grade.... is there any hope of getting it with the increase in maths? :(

Yeah definitely, there's still hope :D I think the most affected courses are kinda science/technology stuff. Not too sure about accounting courses but it could stay the same? Happy thoughts ;) What's your next one after that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 568 ✭✭✭Dapics

Well accounting & Finance in DCU is my back-up plan!!
It's my fifth choice! Have campus accomodation for it... and had campus accomodation sorted for all the courses above my fifth choice.

After that I made a mess of my CAO and have a course i don't want that sits on 400 points. Econ & Finance in Maynooth is after that... Have no accomodation sorted for Maynooth so I dunno what the shtory is.

You happy with your buisness result?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 601 ✭✭✭Lucario

Hmm well I guess all you can do is wait! I'm off my course by about 10 points and praying that it either goes down or that one of my subjects will get a higher grade in a recheck. But I'm not too upset because my second choice is basically the same, and I'll more than likely get that.

Yeah, absolutely delighted! I got an A2 and I thought that would've been really hard to get, and my average was probably a B or something. However I studied really hard for it and I thought the exam was very approachable! I'm still viewing it though, just in case there's a chance of getting an A1, which will give me the 10 points I need :pac:

do people know anything about this?

the marking scheme has supported notes does the corrector only use these?

for example and if i had a point and was relevant and correct but it wasnt on the support notes would i get the marks?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 568 ✭✭✭Dapics

Congrats.! An A is buisness is one of the hardest things to get because it requires the most memorisation! I found buisness as a subject boring and stupid... just my opinion. Wish I had done metalwork instead because I was quite talented at practicals... really good at day pieces and projects... always a high B or A.

For those people now doing sixth year and reading this... don't be afraid to take on an extra subject! It's the best thing I ever done.

Oh no, I don't think the business marking scheme is "if it's not there, it's not correct" :O The support notes are just like, an outline or whatever. If you had a relevant point then you'd probably be marked correct... unless the examiner was just an ass and decided he'd stay with the marking scheme

As Lucario said, no :) I often based my exam question practice on them but (especially in my mocks, when I had to do it myself) it's definitely just an outline of the most common answers. If they suggested one thing and someone used it but explained it badly, and you used another and explained it perfectly, you'll get higher marks.

I know, I used to hate the marking scheme, 'cos when I first looked it up to check my answers I was like "WTF THEY DIDN'T ASK FOR ALL OF THAT!" :pac: But then I realised it was only a guide

It could be someting small like they forgot to correct a page or mistotted the marks! I hope so anyway!

Got an A2 and I think I deserved it, can't complain. Not surprised a lot if people were surprised with their result though, business always seems to have a bastard of a marking scheme...

Hey PictureFrame, sorry to hear about your Business result. I hope you got enough points to do whatever you want to do in college. I was wondering if you did Accounting by any chance? I just need to know if Business is a good complimentary subject to Accounting? (over Economics, that is.)

Thanks man! It must of been one cúnt of a marking scheme that for some reason I got a B1. I actually nearly died of a shock when I saw it..

I still am in disbelief, I used to stay up for hours and hours doing every exam question possible out of the papers. I did every paper back to 2002 and literally ate the book.

I'm seriously starting to wonder about how this L.C. is marked at all. It's so weird, I got an A1 in Irish and know for a FACT that I did not get one. My oral was disgraceful, like really, really bad. I missed half of the tape answers and my essay was just very average.

I got way over what I need for my course (75 points) but it's the principle of it. I'm going to do a joint Civil Law & Business degree so I definitely think I should get Business rechecked for the sake of it!

I've a really weird theory about what happened to my grade (please don't laugh, i'm not boasting I actually think this could of happened). I filled a booklet in the Business exam and did 7/8 extra pages along with the full booklet, my examiner just shoved them all into the booklet but didn't use one of those green tag yokes to keep them inside, do you think there's anyway some pages could of been misplaced? Or the examiner may have skipped some pages in my booklet and not realised seeing as there was so much written?

I'm actually not sure how many pages those booklets have, but I know my English Paper II didn't fill the entire booklet and I did 22 pages in that paper..

I got an A1 and I felt it was marked fairly. I never got lower than 98 in a test all year so I presume it was the same in the LC. I think the trick to ensuring A1s in subjects like business and geography is setting your Targets extremely high. No- one should ever be happy with 90% in a business test if aiming for an a1 in the real thing as 90% is too vulnerable an A1. The aim should be at least 95 % to allow for the errors nerves and pressure cause on the big day.

Yeah, that's an interesting point. Who knows, there could have been several pages that weren't marked or there could have been an error it totting up the marks. Definitely get it rechecked, it's just too bizarre of a result to let go unnoticed.

I dunno, I just have the inkling that something like that happened! Now, maybe it didn't, but I honestly don't feel that I could've messed up so much to not even get an A2 to be totally fair. I used to tell the teacher the answers a lot of the time if she didn't know them herself and knew the marking schemes for every paper inside out.. A B1 really does not reflect the knowledge I had of the L.C. Business course!

Fairly marked. I missed due to timing a whole section on the exam and came out with a B2. I thought I may scrape a B1.
