I read a study last year that the 8mg in solpadeine, nurofen plus and similiar preparations is not a sufficient quantity for pain relief but is sufficient to cause side effects and addiction.
They said 30mg codiene was the minimium required for pain relief.

Been searching for the study again but cannot find it, can anyone help me?

In a nutshell, what we were told in college was that studies fail to show a benefit of combination products over plain paracetamol. Personally, I always take plain paracetamol rather than Solpadeine for headache/hangover etc and it works fine for me. A buddy of mine (another pharmacist) swears by Solpadiene for a hangover. I reckon any advantage is probably placebo.

Sorry, I don't know where you saw the study, but if you find it stick a link up here; I'd like to read it.

On a point of info: Nurofen Plus doesn't contain 8mg of Codeine. It's 12.5 or 12.8 or something like that (don't have a packet handy to check).

    each person experiences pain differently

Paracetamol alone will work as analgesia for some with the same painful stimulus while others may require Para + Codeine 8 or even Para + Codeine 30 for the same stimulus

Codeine is an analgesic and will work on pain at low doses but will depend on the pain

Then again placebo will work for some also
