    *Dr Nick* Hi everybody!
Not sure if this would belong in the main motors section or not (more chance of getting spotted by some able to help here I reckon) but mods feel free to move if neccesary ..

I should be going for a job interview soon which will require some knowledge of vehicle CAN systems & some computer networking as part of the job so, would any of you have any books that you'd reccomend for general info & also learning about CAN systems in general..

I have some atomotive diagnostic experience, mostly rig testing though.. (Engines & ABS systems) but haven't dealt with CAN bus type stuff before..

Anyway, any help is appriciated :)

    Check this website out:

The CAN Diagnostics book is excellent. Easy to understand and very informative.

Any other reading suggestions for automotive CAN systems anyone?

Is it specifically for automotive applications?

We covered CAN and other types of fieldbus in college. I could send you some of the course notes if you thought they'd help. Very little of it was to do with automotive applications though.

    Good overview on Wikipedia ....

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAN_bus

Google search for some more ... there's lots of 'free' public data available.
Try You Tube search also ,,, a feast of good related videos and OBD stuff on there.
    Enjoy yourself ...

Hi Man of Aran, yep have been looking around and gathering as much info as I can (pun intended :D ) just so I will have some understanding before going to interview, plus info that is relevant hopefully might be of help should I get the job :)

@David09, yep I'll take a look if thats okay, I shall PM you an e-mail address to send the notes to if thats alright :)

/Edit: The job will involve some high level vehicle CAN bus stuff (I'm guessing MIL spec type looms etc) plus some other networking type work also, so the notes might be of help even if they are not vehicle/automotive specific :)
