    Hi Folks,

Well one again my head is melted. So i am researching the first place i can rely on. I am getting rectangler cobbles in my drive way. To be honest i have not worked out the sqr meters yet but have had various quotes. Its the techanicalities that bother me.

One fella tells me i need to seal the stone. The other says just power wash it once a year. The other says that sealed i wont have to worry about oil the other says its easy just to replace the cobbles if the stain is bad.

One uses a membrane. The other says that membrane only needs to be used on pavers that cobbles are so tightly packed with silica that no weed will get up from the base.

Has any one got a guide what to consider when looking at laying cobbles.

    Thanks

IMO natural stone like limestone or sandstone should be sealed as they are naturally soft & porous. Moss grows quickly on natural stone, so they tend to go green after a year or so. Some people might like this natural look. It is time consuming & dirty work to remove by power washer. Soft natural stone can chip or flake if power washed.

Granite stone sets or cobbles are very hard & won't be damaged by annual power washing. Precast concrete paving bricks are hard & can be power washed especially if the dye is cast thru the conc.

Weeds in brick paving tend to grow in between the bricks in sand. I'd follow manufacturers advice as regards a need for a weed barrier. Shouldn't be needed with natural stone as you'll point between the stones with cement.

I put tobermore cobbles down on the front drive way they are very easy to maintain, a bit of fairy liquid and a small bit of bleach and scrub them with a yard brush and hose them down, if you get oil on one of them u can just turn the stone, we used a lotrak geotextile woven 1800 under the gravel
