Smallest car with the biggest boot.

My current car is ruined with dog hairs from putting the dog in the back seat, I only need a small car no kids etc. but back seats are a must, I have a large crate and if I could get the crate into the boot then that would be fine, preferably with the seats up but I could live with one down, no dip in the boot is a must, have this in the current car and its very annoying. Anything up to a 1.4 petrol, for money reasons and for around 3k-ish does anything fit this criteria?

Micra with the seats folded will hold a big crate.

How big is the crate? Smarts are suprisingly roomy - a large US style suitcase on its side will fit.

Is it legal to carry a dog in an enclosed boot?

Here is the crate http://www.dogcagesdirect.ie/category-item-1/dog-crate-xx-large-dcg01-xxl.html, not sure if its legal or not but won't be happening for me anyway, I will have to be a hatchback or an estate.

Have you seen the crates that hang off the back of the car? Google is failing me right now, but someone on (I thought it was the Gun or Hunting forum but I can't seem to find such a thing!) talked about it.

Edit -> this is the thread I was thinking of, the product referred to appears to have been pulled and the general reaction in the thread is a no-no so ignore!

One of the nicest smaller estates Ive seen around is the Renault Clio, very easy on the eye........Im saying this cos I cant stand the sight of a regular clio

The best for dogs is to have a flat boot loading area to jump into. Cars like ford focus and others similar will have a 3-6inch lip that the dog in the coming years will hit when he is jumping in and out.
Just another little thing to take into consideration lol

A bit of negotiation to do on the price but how about something like this
    View2?id=12970087

The low loading lip will be a godsend if you're lifting the crate with the dog inside into the boot.

A bangernomics alternative might be this
    $(KGrHqRHJEcE-kMEUcD7BPzFev)6O!~~48_20.JPG

where the lower lip below the bootlid folds down flat, again making it much easier to load. I know it's a 1.6 but it costs f#ck all so keep the money for tax / insurance / petrol.

    Yaris verso,
ugly as sin but the loads these cars can take is unreal,
That one looks a bit rough but is only an example

Honda Jazz is pretty spacious on the inside also.

Boot space on a older Smart is 95cm wide, 70cm tall and 50cm deep, so a squidge too much for the crate, but you could fit your dog easily in the back of a Smart one and they also make a dog mesh.

If you are set on crating the dog, how about a soft one you could securely anchor?

Something along the lines of this either perhaps? - although this one is a bit pricey for a 02

Had one myself up to last Jan, 04 Reg sold for €3k. Never had a problem with it, and a lot of boot space
