Gay debs date, what to do?

My debs are next week and I am the only openly gay student in my school. I am taking a guy I like to my debs, and I told my mam this morning. She has no problem with it but she is wondering, as am I, what to do exactly?
When my brother took a girl to his debs he got her a corsage(the flower thing) and the mother of his date chocolates.
How does this work with a same sex couple? I think getting a corsage for a guy may be a little weird...

Maybe talk to him about it, as its not a usual situation, maybe you could replace the corsage with something else?

How about a button hole instead of the corsage - Im sure the florists do them.

I'd be reluctant to buy his mam anything. She mightnt be as comfortable about the whole thing as your mam is. I remember seeing an episode of modern family (comedy but sometimes touches on serious topics). Not sure if you watch it but there is a gay couple in it and there was a bit of agro with their dads. While both dads were ok with their sons sexuality they couldn't handle the notion that their son may be the "woman" in the relationship. I don't intend to cause offence but I can understand the view point.

I'd just buy your date a pair of cuff links or something small like that. I think it's always nice to give cuff links.

But I would be wary about giving his mam anything.

Sorry. Looking back at your op I don't know if you wanted advice on buying his mam chocolates.

What a great thing to do... when I was in school a couple of lads that were gay just didn't bother going.
As for the gifts I think the button hole idea is a great idea.

    Enjoy yourselves!

What about a snazzy pair of cuff links?

Cuff links would definitely be the bee's knees.

I know you're looking for advice OP but your post made me smile. It's really nice to read that you're out and proud and your mother is supporting you 100%. Anyway, to answer your actual question, I'd agree with the other posters - a pair of cuff links would be the thing to go with IMO. :)

Hope you have a great time! :D
