Read an article today in the independent about commuters having problems at iarnrod eireann stations while tagging on and off. Has this been resolved or is it still occurring?

    Hmmmm...I'm wondering.....

I had two seperate Leapcard malfunctions in the past 24 hours.....both passengers used their card in their wallets.

Both read failures came up as "Too Many Cards",but both individuals said they had not added more cards from last time it worked normally.

However after a bit of headscratching and delay, both had recieved new Visa Debit Cards from their banks.....which have an RFID chip...so folks, pleae check that any new "Chipped" cards are kept seperate from Leapcard.

It's not really a "Bug",but it's yet another hiccup Leapcard does NOT need right now.

Alex, the same thing would happen with Dublin Bus tickets, London Oyster tickets or any other contactless smartcard - it's got nothing to do with Leap at all.

On the other hand, it could be fixed by loading the Leap app onto contactless debit cards which would also rather nicely make it available to thousands of people without any action on their part.

The issue on IR is that their validators tend to go offline a lot. Leap Cards are affected by it, but its not a problem that is solely with them. Any IR smartcards are affected as well.

Hmm, I had the same issue with two different RFID enabled work ID cards I had until I bought a double sided card holder. The little bit of extra plastic stopped them interfering with one another.

Or the reverse, make DB, IR, Luas, accept the new visa debit cards as alternative ewallets, as is currently being rolled out with Oyster in the UK.

It is ironic that just as we get the leap ewallet, in London they are starting to phase out the Oyster ewallet to be replaced by debit and credit cards!!

Ideally dublin bikes, leap ewallet and monthly/etc. tickets should all be loadable on the new contactless debit cards being introduced by the banks.

In the long term, you should be able to load all these cards on NFC enabled smart phones.

AlekSmart does that mean people are starting to just place their wallet directly on the driver side reader? I do that at Luas and DART validators, but not on Dublin Bus, as I thought it might confuse some drivers, but if it is becoming common, I will certainly do the same.

I wonder when someone starts removing the RFID chip from leap cards and placing it in watches and other jewellery, like people do with Oyster.

Yes bk,plenty of my (all too few) Leapcard users simple place their bulging wallet/purse on the reader without issue.

The issue with multiple cards is well known,my point being that in the conflict case, the users concerned had already segrated their cards, but had not factored in the new RFID Debit Card.

There is some interesting stuff going on in the UK right now,but I remain unsure as to whether we are in any frame of mind to grasp such opportunities....
