I know it's been done to death, but would love some advice on getting a new laptop.

I've had my sony for 5 years now and although it still works, I know it won't last for the next 3 years of college. It's been a fantastic laptop, have never had an issue with it up until a few months ago.

I need a laptop with the same kind of longevity as my sony, but perhaps not the same price tag :) I was looking at a Dell. Don't like toshiba, and have never used acer etc so am a bit wary.

I need it for college work, browsing the web, nothing too complicated and no gaming or anything. I want to pay max 600e. Needs to be reliable and relatively fast. I'm really clueless when it comes to memory etc so any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Nothing fancy but a solid machine with specs that should get you over 3 years (and probably beyond):

    Lenovo IdeaPad G580

    15.6" display
    Ivy Bridge Core i5-3210M processor
    4GB RAM
    500GB HDD
