Disillusioned with Subject Choice: Advice?

    Hey, guys. I'm an Arts student on my way into second year and I'm facing a bit of a dilemma. You see, during first year I studied Economics, History and Computer Science as my three subjects. The plan was to then study Economics and History in second year and either study both of them or Economics by itself in third year. However, I'm currently feeling, for lack of a better word, disillusioned with Economics and I'm not exactly enamoured with Computer Science either. Moreover, I'm unsure as to whether my feelings towards economics at the moment are just my typical doubting tendancies surfacing or an actual serious lack of love for the subject. :confused:

    Now, since I can hardly pin my future on history, I'm in a bit of a pickle and I just don't know what to do. If anybody could offer some advice, or direct me to somwhere that will, I would be very grateful. If anybody else has gone through this problem and wishes to share their experience, that would also be very helpful.

    Thanks.

    Had a bit of a subject choice crisis myself after first year, and look at me now... I turned out fine..l right?
    I suggest going to see Rose in the academic advisory office and talk through all your possibilities. She is on summers leave at the moment, but I recommend registering for what you think is your best option, and if you decided to change after talking to Rose, you can always transfer subjects.

    Ugh, those sound like horrible subject choices...
    How did you stay sane for a whole year?

    I had the same dilemma as you when I was going into second year!! I was studying Geography, Anthropology and Economics in 1st year and couldn't decide on whether to go on with Anthropology and Economics. I chose Economics and Geography in the end I'm so very happy I did. Economics is very interesting in second year (if you are interested in it of course). I didn't really like it all that much in 1st year, mainly because of the modules. In second year you will study Intermediate Microeconomics with Dermot Leahy (very nice man and very fair when it came to the exam), Intermediate Macroeconomics 1 and 2 with Julie Byrne (again a very approachable lecturer and very interesting modules) and then a choice of 2 others out of a whole list (check out Moodle). I chose Public and European Economy. If you put in the work in second year, Economics isn't all that hard and you will be rewarded for your effort.

    @Norrdeth:

    I'll try to take that as a complement.

    @tootyflutty:

    Good advice, thanks. Do you have any idea when the Academic Advisory Office re-opens? I couldn't find anything on the college website.

    @GVNDNN:

    Thanks a lot for sharing your experience with me. I'll take it into account when I make my choice. Just out of curiosity, did you keep/are you keeping Economics on in third year?

    As far as I remember she will on leave until 3rd of September, so any time after then should be fine :)
