Stopped by the gards last night

Poulo6.5 was down my way to do a bit of lamping last night, and we brought out a young lad from my gun club for his first taste of lamping foxes. We drove around to the usual good spots and I was showin the young fella how to lamp so he could have a go. He watched and listened to everything i did and said very well, and showed great potential as a lamp man, but he was a bit inclined to be careless of where he shone the lamp near houses, and shone in a few windows at times.
Well we were after shooting a fox in a field and got back into the van and headed off down the road, when what comes up the road towards us, only the squad. They flashed us to stop and we got out to talk to them they asked us were we lamping and we said we were. They told us there had been reports of lights being shone in windows, and they were concerned someone was robbing places. I explained that it was the young lads first time working the lamp and he had hit a few houses with it. Once they knew what the story was they were the absolute finest, and even told us a fox had crossed the road in front of them 500 yards back the road.
It was grand to have a positive experience with the gards, and it taught the young lad a valuable lesson

ah the joys of learning :D:D fair play to ye for taking the time and patience to teach to young lad, hard to get decent lads to show you the ropes nowadays :( i will sometime in the not so distant future when i get my own rifle and some wheels start the learning process of lamping foxs, with the help and advise from lads like yerself i know this forum is taking abit of a batterin lately but its because of this forum and alot of decent lads on it that help and advises lads like me that arent experienced with lamping etc,and great to hear about guards with commonsense:D:D

It's really no bother for me to show this young lad the ropes, because he's very interested in learning, and getting experience in the field. TBH he's the only lad in the gun club that has bothered to come lamping with me in the last 6 months. Everyone else is too busy or has no interest. It's also important to get young lads started out the right way, and to teach them how to lamp responsibly, as at 17 or 18 they'd be inclined to mess if they were out on their own, and that could lead to trouble.
Sure when you do get started yourself, there's loads of lads on this forum that will give you advice. It'll be up to you then to apply it in the field

Great to hear ya passin on the knowledge to the younger lads
I myself have not lamped before until last few weeks with a lad off this and it's such a great experience and the main concern is the safety of where your shooting as at night it's so much more dangerous with the area you are and the shot you take you must be 100% of the area your in that it's a safe shot and has to be a kill shot
Just cuz you can't see a light in a house doesn't mean it's not there
    Well done lads
    Atb

Nice to see theres still boys in blue that have a shred of respect for what our past times include and are lenient to it.not saying that an gardai should say 'ah well' to every fella that shines a lamp into someones yard, but at least we know when their tuned into the way of the land they understand us!
