There is no such thing as a failed Leaving these days.
People usually take 5 passes at any level as Leaving Cert standard, but your friend's son can still get into college through a PLC course.
It is not the end of the world.

Teachers and parents put WAY to much pressure on students to do well in their leaving cert. I'm not a stupid guy but school was just not for me and did all ordinary level subjects and passed only four subjects failing maths and Irish.

I was basically told by teachers that i would be a failure without a good leaving cert and was put under huge pressure and was made to believe my life was over when i got my results, even though its been my dream to be a Firefighter which i do not need a leaving cert for.

I have since studied for 3 years doing different courses to improve my chances of fulfilling my dream, i am now finish and am soon off to New Zealand to become a Firefighter.
