    Hey,

I'm sorry if this is the wrong location for this.

the other half bought a 2002 Peugeot 206, came with 17" alloys on and the ride is absolutely terrible. would a pair of say 15's (2nd hand) improve the ride. If it would, does anyone know anywhere in Limerick or Munster even that would do good 2nd hand alloys reasonable.

    thanks a mill.

It might be the suspension that is causing the issue. Yes, big wheels will cause confort disturbance, but if there has been some crappy lowered suspension put in there then changing the wheels will only make a small difference, if any at all. Or the suspension might be knackered. No harm getting someone to check it out anyway and see. A mechanic would know in seconds whether the suspension is aftermarket or not, and indeed if it is knackered. The suspension is definitely something you need to check first anyway before you go buying alloys.

Your best bet for second hand alloys is probably Done Deal or somewhere similar. Or you could just buy a really cheap set of new alloys from Halfords or somewhere like that.

Bear in mind that you will have to buy new tires also if you are changing from 17s to 15s. Invest your money in good tires if you are going to change the wheels, tis the only part of the car in contact with the road so make sure they are decent...

Hey Ronan H I'm a complete novice when it comes to cars, so please please pardon my ignorance.... the car was only NCT'd about a month ago and passed, surely it wouldn't pass if the suspension was knackered?
I'll bring it to a mechanic to have a look first, thanks
I'm looking to spend the money on the tyres themselves that's why im trying to save a bit on the alloys if possible.

Well, if the suspension passed the NCT then it probably is working correctly, however, that doesn't mean that it is the proper suspension for that car, i.e. it may still have been changed to some sort of sports suspension to make the car look lower, and those types of suspension often are very stiff and uncomfortable.

I'm no expert myself, and there may indeed be other things causing the harsh ride, but it's definitely worth checking out the suspension anyway just in case a change of alloys makes little difference.

    Excellent.
I'll bring to garage tomorrow and have it looked at. thanks Ronan H
