Seen this morning on Engadget that Sky have a new Sky+ App for the iPad. When watching the demo video on the sky site, it mentions "all you need is a new sky HD box, the new guide and both your iPad and Sky HD box connected to the same Broadband connection". I know there is a Ethernet Port on the back of the HD box at the moment, but to get it to work, do i just plug in a cable? Does it work in Ireland? If the cable is plugged in, what happens? Do i get any extra features, other than the Sky+ app on the iPad?

If your iPad is on the same network as the network the Sky+HD box is connected to, you can use the Sky+ app to do a few things (like see a list of the recordings/future recordings in your planner, change channel, playback recordings, ff/rw/pause recordings being played back).

As for being on the same network, if you have a wireless router with a spare ethernet port for your Sky box, that'll do. It works on an Irish Sky+HD box (with no HD sub).

Any ideas how to get this set up with a wireless connection? Router is in the other room from the sky HD box. I see in the uk they sell an official wireless adapter for £60.

I got this set up with a homelink plug and it works brilliantly. Can now work the Sky box from anywhere around the house.

Hi, when I connect my box to internet, will it not be restricted because of living in Ireland? Will I get anytime plus ? Will anytime stay the same ? Does anyone have this up and working ??

Restricted how? You get to see your planner (RoI region), your recordings, etc. No restriction there. AnyTime+ is still not available in RoI.

No anytime plus (it's well documented on that it's not available to Irish subscribers)

    Anytime stays the same

    Yes (see above).

    Either:
    1) Get the aforementioned HomePlug (a wired network that runs over our electricity cables. (network cable from Sky to home plug which is plugged in to the mains beside your sky. another home plug plugged in beside your router, and an other network cable from the plug to the router).

    2) Assuming you already have a wireless network (separate, or integrated with your router), you could get a cheap wireless access point that supports bridge mode. Concept/Diagram Can be tricky to set up if you're not well up on networking.

An apple airport express will also do the job. You can set it to extend an existing wireless network - and there is a LAN port that you can use then to connect the sky box.
You can also use it for AirPlay - if you have an amp near your sky box.

Are customers in the ROI now able to buy a wireless connector ? I cant find it tailored for Ireland ?

Much easier. Never knew it's WAN port could be a LAN port. A good bit more expensive than a basic wireless access point, but a lot easier to set up / use (plus the added bonus of AirPlay).

I think there is a setting on your sky box to enable it, so the iPad will recognise you have more than one box, then relaunch the app and it should pick it up.

The ability to connect to, and control, the Sky+ box is now in the app for iPhone (not just the iPad any more).
