Just looking for a little advice in the purchase of a car please. Just looking for a family saloon car as a runaround and am going to spend 2,500,not going to spend any more than this as the OH has a new car. Was thinking something like a Mondeo,Avensis,or Mazda 6 with a petrol engine size between 1.8 and 2l.I need a family saloon as i've got 3 kids.
Any advice on the above cars would be greatly appreciated. I don't know much about cars at all so please excuse my ignorance, Thanks

    Here you go,

    1.8 LX
Advert says it is a Zetec but it is only an LX

The type of car you are looking for is pretty much sale proof at the moment as the vast majority of Irish motorists are only interested in diesel cars of that size.

This is good news for you, it means you should be able to pick up a bargain.

All 3 of the options you mentioned above are decent cars once you buy a good well maintained example. However all three cars in petrol form have problems with engines burning excessive oil if they aren't properly maintained so look for evidence of regular oil changes.

If it was my money I would buy a Mondeo over the other two if I could find one with a decent spec but that is just personal preference.

Mazda 6 seems to be a decent car for the money..don't get the diesel one as that engine has given problems..

Check out parkers.co.uk for half decent reviews of the cars
