Main tank not filling up fast enough

This problem has only happened recently. In fact we only found out when we have a few people around for dinner.
What happened was that the toilets (upstairs and downstairs) ran out of water! also the all the taps (apart the cold tap in the kitchen which is off the mains) went dry.
This was even more embarrassing the next morning when the shower went dry after one shower(shower is a pressure shower running of the hot tank).

So I did a bit of looking around in the attic. I notice that the water coming into the main tank was only a dribble. I am guessing the ball cock valve is not working correctly?
Another thing i notice is that the all the cistern fill faster than the tank in the attic which I am guessing is not a good.

One last point, there is a electric shower in the unsuite. The pipe for this is connected to the same pipe that feeds the main tank.

Is it a big job to replace the valve in the attic tank?
Also what kind of valve is require?

Thanks in advance for your help.

A new 1/2 inch high pressure Ball cock will probably solve the problem.
It's also possible that the problem is with your incoming main. A lack of sufficient Water or a blockage in the main.

I was thinking that but would the electric shower work with very low pressure, because the shower is feed from the same line.

also the tap in the kitchen is on the mains and that has high pressure,

i'll buy a 1/2 inch high pressure Ball cock from some hard ware store

If you have good pressure at the Kitchen sink then that means your incoming pressure is ok. If that's the case then a new B/cock should fix the problem.
Is it of public mains or a Well system.
What type of shower is it. Electric or pumped. ?

    Public mains,
Pumped in the main bathroom and electric in the ensuite

Is the Electric shower working ok. If it is and you have good pressure at the Sink then it looks like the Ballcock. you would need to turn off the water at the mains and change the Ballcock. Not a big job for a plumber but you would need the right tools.

    Sounds like the ballvalve alright.
If your anyway competent at DIY, you should be able to change it yourself.
Hardest part might be finding and switching off the mains valve.

It's probably dirt in the the ballvalve, open it and clean it out.

Well I fixed the problem. It was indeed dirt in the ballvalve. I replaced the valve and it works perfectly.

I have attached a picture of the blockage.

    Thanks again for the help.
