Amp to go with Jazzmaster....

    Hi all,

I have been playing a CIJ Jazzmaster through a Blues Deluxe for the last few years, and have not been really happy with the overall sound. It gets quite shrill, sharp sounding at times, or else really bassy. Apart from not being able to turn up the amp past 2, I don't use channel 2, the drive channel at all.

I was thinking of an AC15, but it might not have enough headroom in a live situation. I would imagine an AC30 would be the same, only getting to turn it up to 3 or 4. Anyhow, wattage is moving away from the point.

Anyone play Jazzies through Marshall tube amps or other makes. Can they offer an insight into the tone? I know the Jazzy is jangly, which is why I like it, but I'm not totally sold on the Jazz > Blues Deluxe..........

Orange. Without a doubt. They can be quite dark and have this amazing mid range character, and the Jazzmaster just destroys through it.

I'd recommend upgrading the pickups and getting a Mastery Bridge before upgrading your amp.

The stock pups on CIJ Jazzmasters are not so great, and the Mastery will make the guitar much more usable overall, more sustain, better balance across the strings and solid intonation.

Otherwise, how does your amp sound with other guitars? Do you have the same problems?

Mastery Bridge? hmmm, never thought of that. $165 is pricey though...

It sounds very bassy with a semi hollow, not too bad, but the cleans can be weak. Saying that, the semi hollow is not a great guitar.

Seems to sound good with a tele funnily enough..

There are upgraded pups in it already.

    Any particular type of Orange?

I'd go with a Rockerverb 50 or the Rocker 30. Avoid the Thunder series, they're more high gain. The OR50's pretty awesome too.

Yup, due to finances, it will probably be the rocker 30......

the Mastery Bridge upgrade is amazing. Everything works/sounds/feels better - i have 2 - one on a Jaguar and one on a Fender Bass VI. Well worth the money

I'm gonna chip and say a valve & speaker upgrade should be your first port of call!
