So I flashed CM10 Jelly Bean on to my phone and now I cant change the rom or restore to other roms, even tho its saved on the phone.

When I try to flash another rom it installs and says install perfectly but then when it boots it stuck in a boot loop.

    Any ideas?

Have you flashed the replacement boot image from the new ROM?

yea done it now,it seemed to work,it moved off the flash screen and then rebooted, the battery is low so would that be why its rebooting.

Why cant I restore old backed ups? Do I have to have the boot image for that?

I assume you're wiping between ROMs?
Also make sure your boot image matches the ROM.

Yes, you need to have the boot.img for each rom or backup you flash. Unfortunately due to no S-OFF we are unable to flash the boot partition from the phone itself so has to be done every time from fastboot. If you look in the folder with your nandriod backup you will find the correct boot.img to use to restore your phone.

i got it back to jelly bean and then I flashed Android Revolution ,used the fastboot flash boot boot.img whih seemed to work but only got to the android screen then started rebooting
Im trying now to reflash jellybean on it again but flashed the boot image in fastboot and now is just reads sending 'boot'

    any thoughts?

Ok, in the cmd window press Ctrl+C to stop the current action.

Then send the command "fastboot erase cache"

In Clockwork Mod Recovery ensure to "wipe data/factory reset" (The contents of the intenal storage will remain in tact. This will just erase the personal settings held from the last rom)

    Then flash Jellybean Rom again

Then use fastboot to send the boot.img again

    Step one, PANIC!!!!!!

I would just do another full wipe of all partitions, except the SD obviously. Re-flash the ROM, boot back into Fastboot and try flashing the boot.img again.

make sure you erase cache with fastboot as well. "fastboot erase cache" I think.

are you installing a fresh rom or are you trying to restore a backup? If its a backup maybe it's corrupt.

Done all that but it still stalls on the fastboot flash boot boot.img

Sounds like the boot.img file is corrupt and the phone is unable to flash it.

Try downloading the ROM again and double check the md5.

How do you mean check the md5?

Ill download the file again but I used the boot img before and it worked fine.

how long are you leaving it at the jelly bean screen? First boot always takes awhile.

from experience it does sound like the boot image isnt flashed, thats why its stuck on the Jelly bean screen.

How do you mean check the md5?

md5 is a signature created by the person who uploads the file. It is usually a long string which validates a download. You use software to analyse the downloaded file and it compares it to the md5 string to ensure your download is not corrupt in any way. Here's a link to free md5 checking software: download.cnet.com/MD5-Checker/3000-2092_4-10410639.html

EDIT: Can you post a link to the ROM you are downloading? Thanks.

    Hmmmm, that is indeed odd.

Are you able to flash any other roms at all?

I have two roms on the sd card in the phone and then the backups,

I cant get past the splash screen and if i do its with jelly bean and I see the jelly beans flying around but it doesnt go from there

is like fast boot doesnt work.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 256 ✭✭Echoes675

Just to confirm, fastboot has no problem flashing any other boot.img? If this is the case then the issue lies with the rom/boot.img

If not then I would suggest doublechecking device manager to ensure the android fastboot drivers are working correctly

EDIT: Also, is the boot.img file in the same folder as fastboot.exe on your computer?

Ok so I got back into jellybean

What I did was I tried to install another rom fastboot etc

When that failed I factory reset erase cache etc installed jellybean then I let it boot, got as far as the flying jelly beans then nothing happens.

Went back into recovery recovery restore backups then advanced restore and sellected the jellybean I backed up selected boot restore, from there I restarted the phone and went to fastboot erase cache and flashed the boot.img. and it booted .

I dont really like jellybean as I find it glitchy, apps force closing ,what roms is the best to use?

BTW thanks for all the help.

Yeah I found the same thing with JellyBean. Had it on my phone for 2 days to try to let it settle down. Wne back to Viper ROM.

Easily the best OneX rom out there at the minute. A shed load of teeks and even OTA updates from the developers. Recently updated to run on the latest base released by HTC over the last week. Amazing :)

This is the one I downloaded (There are a lot of downloads on that page I know. Various kernals, themes etc...)
    http://api.viglink.com/api/click?format=go&drKey=1359&loc=http%3A%2F%2Fforum.xda-developers.com%2Fshowthread.php%3Ft%3D1745176&v=1&libid=1345023495040&out=http%3A%2F%2Fbeta.androidfilehost.com%2F%3Ffid%3D9390034591667978345&ref=http%3A%2F%2Fforum.xda-developers.com%2Fforumdisplay.php%3Ff%3D1684&title=%5BROM%5D%2012.08%20Team%20Venom%20presents%3A%20viperX%202.0.1%20-%20The%20most%20innovative%20Sense%20Rom%20ever!%20-%20xda-developers&txt=viperX%202.0.0&jsonp=vglnk_jsonp_13450248297021

Once the zip is downloaded, extract the boot.img from the zip. Perform all the usual wipes and then flash the rom zip from recovery as usual. It will load up a GUI with a number of options when you install it. It's up to you what ones you go for if you go the custom install route (I would advise doing this cause it highly customises your rom eg. having no sense software on the phone, or having sense and just removing the elements you don't use. Or using their red theme or not. LOADS of options.

Once you have installed the rom reboot the phone and go into fastboot again and flash your boot.img.

It tok 2-3mins to fully boot when I originally flashed it. Also, they released an OTA update the day after this rom was released to sort a couple of minor bugs, go to: about phone> software updates > check for upadates

Great support and development on this one

This download is to automate the flashing of custom kernals. I would suggest only doing this after a few days of running the rom itself and only if you know what the difference in each is. I haven't bothered cause I find the stock kernal (contained in the boot.img file ) to be perfectly adequate

thanks got it the working now, just wondering can I install the gapps that I used in the jelly bean rom or was that just specific for that rom?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 256 ✭✭Echoes675

I'm not sure. I'm just using the gapps that came bundled with this ROM. Can't think why you wouldn't be able to install them though. You could do a nandriod backup and try and if it doesn't work just restore from backup

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,035 ✭✭✭nedd

i don't think they will all work. Especially not Google Now. Although there is a version on XDA that will work on ICS.

Fair enough. always worth a try when we can backup/restore :)
