Yet again reports come from the paper that another RAcism incident happens, The county board needs to act and ban these racists from the game,

Not much to be said really (as the racism/GAA topic was very recently covered in the previous thread you started about the Lee Chin incident), the Wexford county board did the right thing with the previous incident and I have faith that they will do so again, may not be much they can really do in this case as the umpire has since retired.

I don't really understand how or why an umpire got involved like this, but can't really comment much as I don't know what exactly happened. Unacceptable behaviour without question though.

I'd be a bit wary of this being sensationalised somewhat as it's Wexford in the spotlight once more. Important to point out that it's just an unfortunate coincidence that this has happened in the county so soon, I'd hate to see silly generalisations being made regarding Wexford GAA.

Im not to sure why he got involved either, I have to take issue with your points though, i dont care if it is wexford again really my point is it is Racism, and if it is in in wexford as anywhere else it should be highlighted in my opinion,

If wexford GAa has a issue with Racism it should be sorted,
Why shouldnt it be highlighted? its racism and it shouldnt be defended in any way, just because its in Wexford, thanks,

First of all; are you trying to imply that I was defending racism because to do so would require one to be a blind idiot who can't read! I quite clearly was saying that the issue should not be Wexford. How in the name of bejaysus you felt I was defending racism just astonishes me to be quite honest. The issue is racism, the fact that it happened in Wexford is coincidental and not relevant. Unless; you're trying to say that this would only happen in Wexford and that racism in GAA is a problem unique to Wexford.

You're choice of thread title; "Wexford GAA Racism again", You're highlighting that it's Wexford, and that it's happening again. I'm saying, lets not make unfair prejudices against Wexford.

A more appropriate title; "Racism in the GAA"

I have to agree with jordainius here. the thing is that I read the post and jumped to a conclusion about Wexford and racism, then I read " shouldnt be defended in any way"

I read the link, that was not supplied initially. It mentioned two players who racially abused a player and were suspended. Then this case where the official was also suspended and is now officially "finished with the GAA"

I take it as a positive response to a problem to be honest and that should be highlighted, there were racist comments and the County Board suspended all three of the offenders, they took action in each case. The linesman accepted the suspension.
As a result the messages that I took from the County board were

    1) Players who racially abuse other players will be suspended.
    2) Officials who racially abuse other players will be suspended.

that to me says that the Wexford County Board is doing something about racism, recognising it and dealing with offenders. If they did nothing about it I would agree with the "Wexford Racism Again" title, but I saw more action to try to deal with it than defending racism.

IMHO they only thing that would be up for discussion with respect to the Wexford County board is were the actions they took appropriate or strict enough.

did you even bother to read the links you posted? the umpire was given a 26 week ban, and he has resigned from all GAA activities in any case.

stoners post sums the whole situation up too as well. it happened, it shouldnt have, but it was dealt with and the offender has been suspended. it sends out a message. do people think this sort of behaviour only happens in Wexford or something?

Okay points taken, jordy Im not blind or I an Idiot, no real need for that,
Also if you read my post I didnt say you defended it.

i get the feeling that ye are defending the fact that it happened in wexford? Why.

My point was simply it did happen in wexford and i think it should be highlighted anywhere in Ireland, this is somethging I read in the paper

Okay maybe my wording was not 100 percent, a subject I feel very strongly about,

One last Question if this happened in say Dublin or Cork what posts would have written??
Oh them scumabags in Dublin maybe??!!??

I presume this problem has become more prevalent in recent history. Over the past 10 years in my own locality, we've had kids from all over taking up the games. Our clubs welcome everybody and ignorant bigotry is not tolerated in any form.

Hopefully by integrating the children through team sport at an early they'll develop into adults respecting each other equally.

Your thread could easily have been titled "Wexford GAA clamps down on racism again". Wexford has had two reported incidents, both of which they acted upon.

Now I'm not defending the guy for one second, he knows himself that he's screwed up, but he does have a point on this I think. As I said in the thread about Lee Chin, there have been some disgusting incidents of verbal abuse that have had nothing to do with race, yet these will most likely go unpunished (I remember someone using the fact that a players brother had recently committed suicide to get at him).
I'm glad that Wexford are dealing with these incidents the way they are, but I don't think these punishments should just be for racist abuse.

Well the bone head that said that to him about his brother and the suicide should be banned from attending any games in the club, such a sensitive topic too, I take your points, though I suppose racism is such a bad thing in my view,

That bonehead is now retired I think, it happened about 1o/15 years ago, too bad he cant be named and shamed...
IMHO I think the gaa needs a good hard look at itself and how players conduct themselves on the pitch. They could style the refereeing on rugby. Any chatback from players to the umpire/linesman/ref is dealt with in a serious manner. It does look ugly when players crowd around the ref after a decision and it will have an effect that players may not abuse each other then.

I might have learned my lesson before if that was in place as I stupidly called the ref a blind bstard and got 6 months suspension

I heard about this gobs**te a long time ago and it still bothers me the county board in question done nothing about it. I heard on numerous occasions the most disgusting comments passed when Jason Sherlock was playing for Dublin and saw one chap get a right slap in the mouth for going over the top.

Wexford appear to have acted as best they could and a lot of counties can take a lead from them.

However I think this will be a problem in the future with more and more non nationals playing G.A.A. especially the coloured kids. And I think It is going to be fairly hard to deal with. Are we going to have incidents of "he called me this or he called me that" and no witness. It could leave bad feeling between people and clubs. I just dont know how the G.A.A will deal with this without hard evidence. We have a number of coloured kids playing in my club and they just get on with playing and I have not heard anyone say anything as yet them in 3/4 years they are playing. But most likely someone will say something out of frustration more than maliciousness. Unless referee or linesman or umpire hear it what do you do? Fine the club, deduct points, suspend player or offical. The DRA could be working flat out dealing with appeals.

We have over the last few years heard horrendous abuse aimed at players from specators. Think there were threads about it before. However I have witnessed this not just from 1 or 2 counties or clubs but from loads of them. Every county has a certain number of "scum" who should not be let inside a ground and we just need to a little careful while dealing with it that we actually dont brand ouselves (G.A.A) or a county as racist when we are actually very good at helping people intigrate.

    A possible minefield lies ahead

What the hell? You already replied to that post 3 days ago, why on earth have you decided to reply to it a second time yesterday (in a much more uncivil manner) despite the fact I haven't posted in the thread since?

    And you DID say (or at the very least imply) that I was trying to defend racism when you said the following directly to me;

You felt the need to tell me that racism shouldn't be defended in any way; you would not have said that unless you felt that I was defending racism. I am not going to stand by and let someone say (or even imply) that I am defending racism.

I think Harry C should publicly apologise to Jordainius here.

If not there will be repercussions.

First of all you used the words directed at me,, blind and idiot! how about an apology for that!?

i wasnt trying to say that you directly are defending racism if i came across that way then I do apolagise to you, it wasnt meant that way.

maybe my wording wasnt correct, I wasnt trying to offend you and dont feel the need to or want to with you or anyone

it is a subject I feel strongly about thats all, If we crossed wires or I was wrong in what I said to you, although it wasnt directed at you, then as I say I am sorry
