I'm starting college in Ireland for the first time this September but I don't quite get the fees system. It's about €2000 a year right? And you pay half at the begining and the other half after Christmas, true?

Is it true that you pay the first half at some point in October? So you could ultimately start the course for a few weeks, drop out if you don't like it and not have to pay anything? And if you leave before the second installment is due you're not obliged to pay the second installment?

Just something I've heard around and not sure if it's legit info. Thanks.

The student contribution is 2555 euro if you are eligible for free fees. if you are EU then its about 7000 and your student contribution per year. or if you are non eu its about 20,000 per year plus your 2555 contribution per year.

    Isn't it €2250?

Yes, plus that which goes to the OSL, Hub, etc. which is €38 so €2,288.

daisyaikou, An email was sent out to students currently in DCU during the summer about fees. The contents of it are below, I hope this helps.
Please see below important information regarding fee payment relevant for the new academic year 2012/2013:

(If you are in your final year and will be graduating this year NOVEMBER 2012 please disregard this email)

    1. Most of you will be paying only the registration fee of €2,288, for this academic year students are permitted to pay in 2 instalments, the first of €1163 which must be paid on/before Registration with the balance of €1125 to be paid on/before 18th January 2013 or alternatively you can pay in full. (You can also pay before registration or after but no later than 28th of September 2012, as a late fine of €170 applies after this date) - Any amount can be paid between now and registration provided full payment is made by registration. Please note, if you are in receipt of a grant, you will still need to pay the €38 and you will also need to bring/send to the fees office the renewal grant letter. A financial block will be placed on all accounts on the last day of registration where fees remain unpaid.

    2. For those of you who are paying full EU fees, you must pay 60% before registration and 40% on/before 18th of January 2013. Any amount can be paid between now and registration provided full payment is made by registration. Please note that you will not be permitted to register until 60% of your fees are credited to your student account.

    3. For those of you who are paying NON EU fees, you must pay the full amount before registering. For international payment please see link: https://dcu.studentfees.ie/.
Please note that you will not be permitted to register until full fees are credited to your student account. Any amount can be paid between now and registration provided full payment is made by registration.

    4. Deferred/Repeat/Medical students are charged at €55 per credit plus a capitation fee of €168 for a part-time student or €272 for a full-time student

    5. Please note that any student currently with an outstanding balance will be blocked from registering for the new academic year 2012/2013.
