Parking Fines Through The Post

Just doing a bit of research here, has anybody any experience of receiving parking fines primarily through the post?
Example of what's believed to be happening in my town is the cameras overlooking the town centre are being studied by the council and issuing fines for double parking/bad parking etc.. Just wondering if this is happening all around the country.

The Gardaí have been issuing so-called ticketless parking fines for a couple of years now, the first you hear of it is the letter on the doormat. I have to say, using the cameras sounds like a great idea.

Right that's the first I've heard of it, may well be a good idea but could also be detrimental for businesses on the main st. as you now can't double park for 1 min to run a errand and you could be fined for it. Therefore head off to some edge of town centre for some free parking. Now I know double parking's illegal but it's always been tolerated here for the likes of running errands, and with a wide street it doesn't really hold up anyone.
Also shows how the council intend on bringing in revenue.

They use the cameras in the UK for certain offences, such as running red lights or not yielding at the chicanes they install on narrow roads.
But you normally get a photo of the offence along with the fine.
TBH the more any country relies on cameras to spot offences, rather than real people, the more prevalent car cloning can become as certain elements realise that they are very unlikely to meet any "human" officials as they drive around.

Those people are the worst kind of bad parkers and cause most of the problems. Mush like people stopping outside schools "just for a minute" . They are a bloody scourge.

got one myself about a week ago for €40 for parking on drumcondra road .

i've being meaning to ask for evidence and images of this..... might do that now actually.

EDIT: just to mention i've being told it was issued by a garda in whitehall garda station. which has being closed since april.

    fun.

Agreed, they can cause problems but where they're targeting just seems like an attempt to pull in revenue and this area has always being used for double parking as its so wide it doesn't stop the general flow of the main st.
+ the camera's where installed for anti-social behaviour not parking offences. Absolutely nothing wrong with them doubling up for two jobs but I know of cars damaged late at night and people being told the cameras weren't turned on, but now there's a revenue stream they can turn them on.

    Double parking is anti-social behaviour.

You know what I mean't, camera's certainly weren't brought in to catch someone double parked for 1 min. Don't know the % but a massive number of drivers are guilty of anti-social behaviour so.

Guards don't need images as evidence for parking fines. AFAIK traffic wardens do take pictures alright. You can dispute it and let it go to court and the guard will give evidence of having issued the fine.

I don't think it's a massive number, I think it's a small core of repeat offenders. Most people aren't that selfish. I'm delighted to see anyone double parking for even a minute getting a ticket, as i'm sure is anyone else who's ever been blocked in by one.

just found out about mine there.

was issued by a traffic warden in brown uniform that he doesn't know much about.

even the garda called her a cow for it ! :v

I beg to differ and believe most drivers would have double parked at some stage. While I say that I'm constantly thinking of the spot in town where this double parking is happening; it's a ATM and a popular newsagents across the road, it's not a city centre or large town with my point being that its really not causing as much hassle as you may be thinking, and seems as it may be serving as a new revenue stream for the council.

But the UK has become a real police state in recent years, hope Ireland wont follow in their footsteps

Should use cameras for yellow boxes too, you stop in one you pay a fine, simples. Unless turning right etc.

Anyone concerned about providing a revenue stream for the council can simply opt out by not parking like a d1ck, no?
