Have any instructors any information on upcoming reviews on EDT. It seems things have gone quiet over RSA way even though there is still an awful lot of resentment from ADI's as well as pupils. Many people are not taking lessons at the moment because they see EDT as unworkable and are holding off for change. This is a view that has been expressed to me on several occasions in my locality so I am to believe it is the same throughout.

There is also, unfortunately, a lack of information being put out in the media as to the reasons EDT was introduced and of its benefits. There is no point in asking someone to go to the RSA website and read about its benefits. They have to read it in their newspaper, learn about it via the tv or listen to it on the radio.

With just about every conversation started with me it ends up with the person stating "Its just a money making scheme".

Is this the final draft for EDT or are wheels in motion for reviews and updates.

The EDT program is seriously flawed. But it is the system that is currently in place. It is going to change for the better and the wheels are well in motion. But this is a government organisation and the wheels turn very slowly. I doubt if any reworking of the EDT program will be released before next year. I wonder of people will have the option to change how they go through EDT or will the sylabus depend, again, on the date of issue of their licence. I also wonder if the number of lesson will be increased.
They only change that I am sure will happen is that the EDT will be changed to be more like the motorbike IBT. So learner drivers will have to take a number of lessons before they practice on their own.

There still seemes to be an ongoing debate as to whether the 'stamp' is for 'content delivered' or 'competency achieved'

It definitely is 'content delivered'. It used to be a case that if the instructor did not think the learner had achieved the outcomes, then they could choose not to progress to the next lesson. That was then written out of the legislation.
It is purely content delivered now. Then next EDT unless the learner agrees to deviate from the syllabus for some reason.

I'm with you on the 'Content Delivered' issue. When an EDT lesson is done we stamp the logbook for that lesson. We cannot expect the pupil to be competent within 35 to 45 minutes of practical driving. When the next EDT lesson is due we can then see how much practice has been given to the previous lesson and note in the logbook if necessary that 'More practice needed with regards to...'

I think that when an instructor embarks on a new EDT with a new pupil it should be overly emphasised to the pupil and highlighted in the logbook for their sponsor that the completion of the EDT course is not a guarantee that they are test ready. It means that the EDT content has been delivered but the practice they put in outwith formal EDT lessons will dictate whether or not they are test ready.

True. I get far to many people refering to EDT as pre-test lessons, when they are poles appart.
