Developing ye olde 110 film ?

    Hi folks,

    I've discovered ... or rather, uncovered ... a used ( i.e. fully exposed ) roll of Kodak Gold 110 200 film ( Process C-41, according to the label ).

It's of very questionable age. I reckon it dates from before I moved into my current residence, and that's 10 years ago ... so I don't have any great hopes of the roll being successfully developed ... but I'd love to see if anything could be.

However, I'm at a complete loss as to where / who would still develop such a roll. Would anyone know of anyone still doing such rolls and processes ?

    TIA,
    Wendolene.

Any lab can develop it. It's just regular film and goes through the same minilab machine.

They won't be able to print it for you though. They might be able to scan it if your lucky (but I doubt they will have the carriers to scan the negs.

I still buy and shoot 110 film, get it developed and scan it myself on an Epson V500 with some special 110 negative carriers I bought to fit them into for my scanner. Most of my film is really old stock. You won't get great results but thats half the fun.

    Hey dubtom,

I tried to contact Gunn's via their web site, but got no reply :( I didn't think of the Camera Exchange, so will try them.

    Thanks,
    Wendolene.

    Hey vic,

I'm not in Cork, but I do visit fairly frequently so MacSweeney's shop is an option for me.

    Thanks,
    Wendolene.

    Hey pete,

Your point about printing is interesting - maybe that's what my local photo shop guy really meant when he said that "the lab didn't do that film any more"

I don't have that kind of kit for a scanner, but it sounds like a handy way of getting something printable alright.

I just might need to investigate something like that if I finally manage to get that film developed. However, it's just one roll of film I have, so I doubt it would be worth it to me ... especially as I doubt I'll successfully get any images at all.

As you can see, it's the curiosity factor that's driving this. Who knows what's on it ???

    Thanks,
    Wendolene.

you don't NEED the right carrier. It makes life easier if you've got a lot of 110 to do. You can usually lay it down, hold it in olace with some coins and set the scanner to not show a preview and use the fence/crop function to scan the negs without a carrier, if you know someone with a scanner that is!

110 is obsolete so most places wont want to touch it because the film will probably come out looking a bit crap tbh. The colours will be off, it'll be grainy etc and they may not want the hassle of a complaining customer who was expecting perfect results. go in, say you know its out of date and expect nothing buy hope for the best. Gunns in Wexford street may try to scan it for you (as its an obsolete format it can be a pain in the ass to scan) and may charge extra. the best thing with Gunns is they will develop it for you and let you have a look to see if its worth scanning (in your opinion) and only charge you for what work is done in most cases.

If all else fails. I'll scan it for you if its that important to you. If you can't find anywhere to develop it you can send it to me and I'll even get it dev'd and scan it for you and send the negs back with the images on CD! I'll even try to clean up any dust/scratches if I can. I am in Australia so the whole process might take 2-3 weeks. The offer is there.

    Pete.
