New engine in 2008 car

I am after some assistance as to a new engine in an old car.

I have a 2008 Qashqai which had 60000km on it but due to an overheat problem a new engine is required.

I have sourced an identiacal engine with 29000km on it and it is being installed by a qualifed mechanic as we speak.

I know that I have to inform the VRT office to get a new log book, but what is the protocal if i decide to sell on.

Do i need to disclose the new engine to a buyer? also does the odo need to be changed to the mileage of the new engine?

Thanks for any responses in advance.

Keep receipts, inform any future buyer, don't alter the mileage.

Yes just record that new engine with 29k miles was fitted on such a date to your car and that your car had 60k miles at that date.
It would be completely wrong to alter your mileage as the whole car, no just the engine has covered the miles. There may be mileage related service items also that are not engine related so clock needs to stay at current reading.

As someone who has a QQ as a second car in the household. Can I ask what the overheat problem was? Were you continuously losing coolant but they couldn't find any leak?

I'm having this issue at the moment and really don't want to fork out on a new engine...thanks all the same :)

To be honest with you we have not really got to the bottom of it, but it definately involved the coolant system.

Dealer claimed that someone had put an additive in the vehicle to secure a leak. Supposedly the additive didnt mix with the coolant and caused an overheat of the engine.

All I know is that everyone wo has ever touched the car denies putting an additive in. Also we have had the radiator flushed as part of the new engine going and never any signs of a leak.

The dashboard never alerted us to overheating so be careful, just one day the car packed in and with disputes with dealer we have been off road for 4 months.

Costly exercise so I would insist on your Nissan dealer getting to the bottom of the problem.

Keep in mind that most dealers will just tell you that you need a new engine as its easier for them then actually earning their labour rate by repairing the problem.

Did they say what damage was caused that rendered the engine unrepairable?

If you drove the car into the dealers in anything less then a cloud of smoke and steam then the engine is likely repairable IMO.
