OW swims with individual canoes?

    hi guys
I recently did the 10K OW swim in Lough Gill, I really enjoyed it, one of hte most enjohyable swims I have ever done. One of the reasons I liked it so much was that each swimmer had their own canoeist beside them. Normally on OW swims I waste a lot of time trying to work out where to go, or on getting lost! So it was great to just swim behind the canoe and not worry if I was getting lost.
Would anybody on the forum know of other regular OW swims in Ireland that have the same policy of a canoe for each swimmer?
    thanks!

For me, I don't like this policy. I think part of OW swimming is sighting your own line and swimming your swim.
I did a lot of OW swimming (races) last year and the year before and not one had individual canoes for each swimmer. We had canoes and safety boats that would only intervene if you were going way of course.

I lost some races because I picked poor lines, equally won some because of the route I took.

Suppose to answer your questions, I think most of the long swims organised by the Irish Long Distance Swimming Association have one to one canoe cover.

well done on your 10k skins swim banjobongo, a great achievement and a very impressive time.

Dungarvan Bay this weekend gone had plenty of kayak cover, virtually one each.
(a pair of swimmers close together might have had one between them)
but "only" 4k so you might want something more testing.

i think Cork to Cobh (10 miles) might have individual boat cover.
only open to 10k swimmers so you're okay there, contact Ned Denison.

    hi Okane
thanks for your feedback. I can see where you are coming from. With myself, one of the things I like abou doing a OW swim is that I kind of get really into a zone and just enjoy the actual swimming, being in the water, and I forget to keep an eye open! I suppose I should try harder but I really enjoy just swimming! On a few OW swims I have actually swam in completly the opposite direction! So if I can swim beside a canoe I can just forget that worry and relax adn enjoy the swim....plus its handy if I need to take a drink/have a bite, its right there beside me whenever I want.....
