Jag XF 2.2. versus A6, 520D etc

What are opinions regarding XF 2.2? I don't see many of them though this might be down to the sparse dealer network as on paper they seem like a good option- coming with 200 bhp automatic in band B and Luxury trim with full leather, sat nav, zeons etc for under €50k.

The biased UK mags rate them highly versus the German makes but they don't seem to be selling in any great numbers. I had a spin in a 3.0 twin turbo last year and was really impressed with it but its too expensive to buy and run for my liking. Ideally I'd buy a year old one in the New Year but not sure what money they would be making- dealers seem to be asking close to retail for 12 reg models now

if the band B tax is a selling point to you, chances are you cant afford the repairs on any of those cars should something go wrong. If you dont have more than 200 a year to spend taxing a luxury car, I wouldnt reccomend buying one.

The company want us to stick with band B cars as they are paying for the fuel. I was thinking of buying one a year old and keeping for two years so would warranty work should cover any repairs, though I don't want to deal with a car breaking down so I'd like to know if they aren't reliable

You might not have noticed but the majority of 5 series and A6's sold new are in band B, so I think it would be a bit of a stretch of the imagination to assume that those owners can't afford their cars either?

Decent car alright, I say go for it, nice to see something a bit different. Can't be any less reliable than an A6 auto, that's for sure!!
That 2.2 isn't new so far as I know, just modified, so a fairly proven unit.

The jag is nice no doubt about that but if i was looking at spending that kind of cash on an executive car it would be the E class, more so the E class coupe, smashing car and imo the nicest styling out of the lot. Cracking drive too

Go drive them and see which you like best?

Get the Jag, no less reliable than the usual offerings from Germany. The 2.2 engine has been around for a while in Xtype guise, and has a good track record. Test drive the Jag and see what you think. Best wishes

I didn't know it was the same engine as the X type- so thats basically a Mondeo engine too then? I will try to get a spin in one- I had a 3.0 on the autobahn last year and it was very smooth, really liked the cabin design too. Am surprised they are not selling in greater numbers and have never spoken to anybody who had one. Will try to get a test drive in one soon

A friend of mine is on his second one (first one was 2.7 diesel and now the 2.2 diesel) and loves them, hasn't had a minutes trouble either..

    The 2.2 litre is a PSA/Ford engine.
