Hi all. OK So my Dad already has Insurance on his car. He wants to add me to his insurance. We went to AXA And they said 253 euros from now until October and 1800 renewal. Any way I can get added to my dads insurance cheaply? BTW I also asked if I could get insurance for my self but because I'm 17 and just got my learner permit They say its 3,000 euros.

As far as I know, no matter if you are named driver, or just by yourself insured it will be high anyway for your age, but being named driver is cheapest option for you.

I am 19, I got my insurance when I was 18, the prices were as follows:
    I got 1.2 Corsa 2001.
AXA: 3600 Euro (I said thanks no)
First Ireland: 1600 Euro (including discount I got with instructor)
First Ireland: 1500 Euro (being named driver + discount I got) so I went with being insured myself so that I don't get anyone in trouble if I cause accident, as well as no claims can build up, as far as I know if you are second named driver your no claims bonus doesn't count?

Btw also depends what car your father got. If it's say some kind of car like BMW M3 4.0L then you are quite lucky to get that price on insurance :D

But yeah I noticed the things that affect insurance:
    Age (primary factor)
    Car (risk level/risk group)

oh, that's still high insurance then. I would say it's because you are 17, not even 18

Try 123.ie or Liberty insurance. The big companys are not the best with young drivers.

Excess direct are good to provided you can cover the high excess.

It pays to shop around, actually make a days work out of it. You'll defo get cheaper than 3000.

It would, massively. Most 17/18 males would be around €3000-€4500 on a lerners permit! :pac:
