Surge Protector didnt work!

With the lightening this morning the electricity went and when it came back it seems to have damaged the broadband router and damaged a pc connected to it although not the other one.

The router seems to work fine (I can go through all the settings using a pc) except the dsl sync wouldnt light up. When I opened it up I could see damaged resisters right behind the DSL connector and the 4th Ethernet connector (closest connector to the dsl). I also had a pc on ethernet1 but it wasnt damaged luckily enough

I have my phone line going through a surge protector before getting to my broadband router but obviously it didnt do enough or didnt work at all. (the surge light is still on!)

I inspected the motherboard of the pc that wont turn on but i cant see any physical damage. Is it a case of just the motherboard gone or could there be other damage?

Its almost certainly had a go at the PSU - hopefully the components would have taken the load. What amperage fuse was in the surge protector?

Say PC1 (fine) & Router are on the Surge Protector I'm currently using which is rated for 9000Amps. Damaged PC is actually connected to another surge protector but that doesnt give much information other than its fitted with surge & thermal protection.

There was a laptop charging in the house, no surge protection, and that didnt get damaged either.

I did a PSU test and it worked so it looks like the motherboard is fried!

I'm gonna have a hard time tracking down a replacement one because its MSI board used in a Medion.

Try removing all add on cards (Network/graphics/modem/sound etc), and just leave one module of RAM on the board and try booting again

I've attached the spec of the damaged motherboard, its a MSI MS-7366.

Komplett have 3 Socket 775 micro-ATX boards that could be suitable. Feedback would be much appreciated.

Only add on card is a GFX card. I removed that and tried to boot, nothing happened.

none of them motherboards are any good to you as you use ddr2 ram on yor old board and you would need ddr3 for them motherboards so you would have to buy new ram also

This is not really a bad thing. DDR2 RAM is expensive, but DDR3 RAM is cheap enough atm.

http://www.elara.ie/productdetail.aspx?productcode=MMEQ120183 may suit you? Socket 775 and DDR2 RAM. Elara.ie has a couple of motherboards with such a spec.
