Noob questions about golf lessons

    Hi guys,

I have only started playing golf and joined a club in June after playing p&p on and off for a few years (no more than 5 rounds a year).

I have gotten 2 lessons off the pro in the club and he has completely changed my grip and posture. While it felt weird at the outset, I am comfortable with it now and have seen a definite improvement.

However when I got my 2nd lesson, the pro said that I was to leave the driver and woods in the car until I got lessons from him about using the driver and the woods.

He also said that I need to change my clubs to callaway x22's with oversized grips and extra lengths on the clubs. He said that because im relatively tall it would help.

I am doing what he said and leaving the driver/woods at home. I have been hitting a 6 iron off most tees and their going about 150/160 metres and most of them are going straight which was rarerly happening before.

    My questions are:

Has anyone else been told to leave the driver/woods at home before and if so how many lessons in does it normally take before you get the lesson on this? Is it not the same type of swing for clubs?

Secondly, What are oversized grips and extra lengths on clubs?

Finally are callaway x22's good clubs and also are they dear clubs?

Apologies for the stupid questions but just can't figure out.

    Thanks

    CBTC

Probably not a bad idea to start hitting irons first. The driver and fairway woods are the hardest clubs to hit consistently well IMO. I would probably benefit myself from leaving them at home! It's not a different swing as such, however, there are a few setup changes (ball forward in stance, stand further away from the ball, a 'flatter' swing plane, etc.) that might be confusing for a beginner.

I'm tall myself and my clubs are an inch longer than standard. Could I play with standard clubs, yes no problem, but having properly fitted clubs makes it easier to hit good shots. That said, I wouldn't necessarily recommend a beginner get a new set of fitted clubs. I'd say stick with the ones you have until you are sure you have the golf bug!
