Hi, sorry if there is already a similar thread about this. Just looking for a bit of info I can't find online.

My mam passed away a couple of years ago, and left her car to myself and my sibling. It wasn't financially viable for us to start running the car, nor was it legal for me to start driving, so it's been out of use.

Couple of things I need help with.

My sister is looking at starting to drive the car now, and my uncle has offered to use his no claims on it to reduce the price. However, seeing as my mam left it to my sister and myself, and he wants to insure it, will we have to transfer the car from my mam's name to both mine and my sisters, and then transfer it to our uncle, or can we just get the executor of the will to do so on our behalf to transfer it to him?

Secondly, is it the correct protocol for the executor in this case to do this, or does this require the involvement of a solicitor? I have the log book myself by the way.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

A declaration witnessed by a comm. for oaths is required, usually free in your local court.

As far as I know, you cannot register a vehicle in more than one name. In this case you'll need to decide who to register it to.

Bear in mind that your uncle registering himself as the main driver on a vehicle registered to someone else is highly likely to be in breach of his insurers policy requirements.

No claims can only be used on one car at any given time.
