Freesat on Sky

    Hi,
I am trying to weight up whether to sign up for Sky or get freesat.

One thing I was thinking of doing was getting one sky box into the living room. This would mean we are only paying for the one sky box and this would work out at 25 euro a month. Sky charge a minimal price for installation of dish.

Then, I was thinking putting a free sat box in any other room (kitchen + bedroom). As far as I know I can do this and I don't need to adjust the satellite at all.

Does this make sense or are my missing something?

    And any tips?

Also after one year as far as I know I can cancel my subscription with sky keep the dish and just get another free sat box for the living room?
    Thanks.

If you have any mates on sky, you could join using their introduce a friend. They'll get 50 euro and you'll get your first 2 months half price.
Otherwise, what you've outlined isnt a bad way to go. I did this myself when I joined, intending to leave after a year but the extra channels you get made it hard to drop. I eventually ended up with sky world (on a reduced sub by ringing to cancel every year).

If you join Sky for a year you will become addicted to the features and unable to leave. If you do leave they disable premium channels, all Irish channels, disable recording, and disable playback of any premium recordings. The box is "yours" but not much use.

You can get one subscription and feed the output of the Sky box to the other room and control it using a "Sky eye"

For 25 a month you get very few premium channels over what is available on Freesat and Saorview. Compare the lineup on Saorview, FreeSat and Sky's basic offering. Many of the basic channels are not worth watching.

If you want premium sport or movies you probably need Sky. If 25 per month is not a big spend for you then it's fine but if money is tight 250 per year extra for basically free channels is a large cost.

I would suggest getting Saorview and a genuine FreeSat recording box like the humax+HD box installed for a once off fee. It has most of the Sky+ features without the 250 per year ongoing charge
